WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

I was going to plant some bulbs in pots but changed my mind and went for a walk instead

 

Removed broken leaves from Dahlia imperalis, made a lot of growth this year despite a late start and the attention of a swarm of slugs and snails, only 7ft tall though.
Weeded, hoed and cut back in one flower bed. Cut down the late flowering aconitum, wore gloves and washed hands afterwards.

 

But did the dahlia flower ?

 

Jobs in the garden today? Getting the flower pots off the puppy, as he ran around the garden with them, as fast as we could move them into the shed out of his reach. We also had to cover the compost bays, as someone helps himself to the contents (and then farts his results all evening - apologies for the graphic details!)

…that’s about it, really!

 

Nothing much in the garden today, but back and fore the greenhouse, bringing my seedlings and cuttings indoors, and covered most of my larger cactus with fleece, before the frost starts, getting much colder in the nights

 

I sympathise @shiney. Due too an arm injury I've not used my mower since April and it's going to be hard next Spring when I get back to it.

 

Still in the throes of cutting things back or composting them. Trouble is so much is still in bloom, the Cosmos are doing fabulously well, so are the Rudbeckias....even the good old Marigolds are looking too healthy to heave out. The Dahlias are still putting on a good display too but are noticeably slowing down now.
I will hopefully begin Tulip planting soon along with some other bulbs that have been patiently waiting their turn.

I have almost completed writing up all the various seed sowing dates for '22' onto my online diary which gives me the appropriate daily reminders, I am trying to work it so that we don't have too many to germinate indoors this year, although there will still be a handful that will need that level of protection still.

 

Not a lot today just did some weeding, planted 12 small sage plants.

 

I did a spot of tidying up today - pulled out petunia plants from window boxes, tidied up the hostas, putting the yellowed leaves into the green bin for collection this week, did a bit of weeding. Need to cut the grass tomorrow if it stays dry, it’s still growing like mad.

 

Finished logging all the sowing dates for the remaining seeds that I've selected for next year onto my online diary.

Trimmed and tidied up all the potted Hostas, trimmed right back and potted up a couple of Fuchsias that I missed a couple of weeks ago. Planted up 4 more pots with Spring bulbs. Swept the 3 patios.

 

Planted out some Alliums this morning.
