It is geting silly now. You can't say anything for fear of offending.

Just to let everyone know, today I am self identifying as a brussels sprout - anyone who refers to me other than as a brussels sprout will cause offence.

Yes, this is how it's going.

Would that be a cis or a trans brussel sprout?

Translation: While vegetarians eat the plants that produce oxygen, we're saving the planet by eating methane-producing cows  Can't argue with that, surely?

Happens to often, numbers are easy manipulated to deceive people.

"Quorn" launched a new product "Quorn Thai Grains" they were claiming, consumers would reduce their carbon foot print immediately. The advert was banned after an investigation by the "ASA" they had no evidence or any labelling informing the consumer to back up their claim.

Supermarkets have been 'trying ' to reduce plastic for a while now but I still don't get why it's so difficult to cut a lot of it out. They don't need to wrap all the veg in plastic, just stop doing it. It's already offered without in some cases so just expand that method

In fairness, I think there was signs of a swing to more loose fruit & veg sales due to consumer pressure, slowly but still a change. However, peoples buying habits have changed, hygiene became priority due to covid, with a swing back to prepacked being the preferred choice for consumers.

Bit like the compost, peat usage in compost increased 40% last year, all the hard work to reduce peat consumption then demand out stripped supply. It will balance it self out, just feels like starting from scratch at the moment.

In my experience, greenies, vegans and cyclists are not the best when it comes to actual facts.

What was wrong with foil trays (takeaway style) or carboard trays and paper bags? Even glass bottles for juice etc?

No idea. But it's pretty simple to stick things in a paper bag, cloth sack etc isn't it?

Its because they use carbon dioxide to fill the plastic bags/wrapping so that the product lasts longer.

I didn't know that. How about things like cabbages that are sold in an open plastic bag?

I can believe that. It's a fact that my home-grown produce starts to look sad and shrivelled just three or four days after harvesting, whereas supermarket-bought stuff can last in the fridge for weeks. I'll have to try huffing into a Tupperware box containing carrots and see if it helps :ideaIPB:

Huh! Not in Tesco! A double moan here. A few weeks back the Tesco Extra I shop in decided to completely change the layout of the shop, starting by moving the clothing to a different area. The large space it was moved from now contains (hopefully temporarily) anything from 'technology' to suitcases which is in the middle of the food aisles. This week they have decided to move everything else, so my regular shop was disrupted by having to hunt for everything I normally buy. All this leading up to Christmas, creating double the chaos at that time.

In the process of this change the fruit and vegetable area has been reduced in size and upright fridges installed containing pre-packed (in plastic) vegetables. In my opinion this has wasted a lot of storage space, there's less choice and it certainly doesn't look as fresh as loose veg. Add to that it works out more expensive, eg. I don't want to buy half a dozen leeks, I only want to buy one!

I also need to shop in the 'Free From' fridge aisle that has been moved and reduced in size to one overhead fridge - it wasn't very big before. But no need to worry, while I have to make do with what's available or starve, vegetarians and vegans are well supplied! No offence meant to those of you who are the latter. I don't like cooking, but have to by necessity produce most of my my own food at home. Having the 'Free From' supply gives me time out now and again from being tied to the kitchen.
