Here the Pharmacist is brilliant and can prescribe. If they have questions, they phone a doctor to query.

If I remember correctly, British Pharmacists have a Doctorate. My friend's husband who owned a Pharmacy in Princes Risborough and he certainly did. @Flumpy may be able to clarify this.

It was like when I was a Legal Advisor to the Grant Maintained Schools Center I had a lawyer "at the end of the line" should needs be.

Well we all know the NHS is great if you get run over by a bus or have a fall while rock climbing. But my one question is, would you expect a better service if you had paid into a private scheme for all your working life?
Seems to me covid was the last straw that broke the camels back.

And why should the likes of those in power give a monkeys, as they are all on the private plan that they can afford or even comes with the job.

The excess would of been more, it would of been for me if I had put in a claim.

I hear regularly on another forum of people travelling to Thailand without insurance, they end up using "Go Fund Me" to pay for their medical care. Someone even said that as many as 40% of British travellers go abroad with out insurance or inadequate insurance, it would not surprise me. If you look at insurance reviews on the likes of Trust Pilot, its always, "cheapest I could find", "site easy to navigate". What is more important to me, is what are they like, when you need to make a claim.

Very true @JR , I believe that the doctors are shooting them selves in the foot, if they are only going to answer phone calls, and advise or send you to A&E for ear infections and the like, will it be only time , where a lot of GP’s will get the push  hope I never break a leg or something, may have to go to Aldi’s to get it mended

For over 30yrs I had a doctor who was, to say the least, bloody useless.
To show the kind of bloke he was, he retired about 2 months after covid started, at a time when some doctors were coming out of retirement to help out.
Only reason I stayed with him was that during those years I hardly ever needed a doctor.

After lots of chopping and changing I got a new named doctor earlier this year and he seems so much better.
He even rang me, out of the blue, just to ask how things are and to Catch up, as he put it.

Some are trying I think .

I agree Pete that there are good and bad in all professions, but if one can go to night clubs, rugby and football matches, where your in close contact with people, then what are the doctors afraid of  Do they know something we don’t
A lot of the problem with our surgery is the receptionist, she thinks that she’s a doctor, I rung the surgery on oct 31st, she answered sorry no appointments today, I only phoned to say happy halloween :roflol:

                  Yes.

In 2009 work started on the new West Cumberland Hospital, which is where my Mrs works. It was to be built in three phases, phase three will not go ahead now due to delays and going over budget. All phases should of been built before covid, so that can't be used as an excuse.

Future new West Cumberland hospital plans revealed (buildingbetterhealthcare.com)

Phase 2 only started this year, the above link was dated Nov 2017 and work was expected to start in 2018.

When phase one was completed they actually wanted to close the A&E and children's ward and move them 40 miles north to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. Why build an A&E with a maternity and children's ward, then 12 months later want to move them. Cumbria does not have an increasing population, in the last few years there has actually been a decline. The trouble is, the county is now classed as a super aging county, well above the UK average which has resulted in the trust having to put it's resource's to care for an aging population. Everyone was expecting "Moorside" the nuclear plant to go ahead, so the new build hospital and residential properties would of been built primary to accommodate the thousands of workers the site would of created. Most of the new properties now have been purchased by second home buyers and retiree's, pricing locals out of the market. Most of the locals think we will not have a hospital in the future but one big care home.

Regarding doctors surgeries and healthcare places in general.

Just my thinking, but if they get one covid patient through their door then the whole place has to shut down and be deep cleaned.
Which would make seeing a doctor even more of a problem.

I was getting some yogurt and turned around and my shoulder bag (with all too much in it) flew off my shoulder and I flew to the floor sustaining a grade 4 break to the neck of my femur. Grade 4 is sheared cleanly across. When I was in triage waiting for them to prepare a bed with traction, the Auxilliary came around offering folk yogurt as a snack ... I declined!!! I still eat yogurt daily. I do not carry a handbag any more,

I agree totally there Pete, but where do they draw the line on who gets to see a doctor or not, we are told not to neglect ourselves and get checked out, but you can’t get further than the initial phone call. Surely if our jabs are all up to date it would offer some protection and peace of mind to doctor and patient even if it’s by appointment only, no walk in surgery etc.

Well .... I then decided to trip up a step in the lounge and push the stem from the hip replacement through the femur, fracture my hip in four places and sublux my knee. Two MORE hip operations and a knee replacement in a year on the same leg later I am now walking with assistance. I will get there ... I am determined and positive! I haven't conquered the balance problem YET ...
