After the Little, and more recently, the Great Egret both becoming breeding birds in the UK in the last 25 years, now the Cattle Egret is expanding and breeding here too.
there were a few at Radipole rspb reserve this morning.

I've always liked the Jays that come to our garden but one of them has become a nuisance as he has learnt how to take the peanut feeder off the stand and get the lid off! The pheasants helped him clear up the nuts but the crows were too nervous when the others were there. I now have to use wire to keep it in place when I hang it up.

@shiney, like all of the Crow family, they are quick to learn and take advantage.

              Do Robins make winter nests?

In the ivy outside my office window a Robin has been in and out a few times and a couple of times it has spent four or five minutes in there moving about in one spot (I can see the branches moving in that spot.

@strongylodon will be able to give you a better answer I think @shiney. I'll give it a go by saying - I don't think Robins build winter nests but may, like the tit family, use old nests or nest boxes for shelter overnight when the weather is particularly bad or cold during the winter months. I have nest boxes for Blue Tits here and they've been checking them out over the last couple of weeks.

I've seen blue tits going into the bat box. They seem to do that every winter. The box has been there for 15 years but never any bats in it. :noidea:

@shiney Boxes are a much prefered place for overnight roosting although Blue Tits roost alone unlike sparrows. They will not normally start nest building until March.

It could be in the wrong position for bats or not the right type of box.
