A friend of ours wrote a poem about it last year. Incommunicado (June 2020) I’m in Communicado The land of Zoom and Skype Where people with bravado Can chatter while they type. A land of teeming zooming Where no one stops to hear Where tinnitus is booming In each bombarded ear. My telephone may call me My neighbour ring the bell I’m safe inside my headphones Reclusive in my shell. I study tell-tale backgrounds In everybody’s rooms The learned tomes, the tattered blinds The vase of faded blooms. But if I’m in pyjamas My webcam’s switched to veto l see and hear but disappear Happily in Cognito. (Anne Neuhaus)
I used to use Skype with Sis. I don't like talking on the telephone ... left that behind when I left work.
We use both Skype and Alexa. Most of our immediate family have an Alexa Show or the app on their phones. We now have the Alexa Cube too which is brilliant as our TV is the screen, we can also do group calls to each other on it. It's good because I have the app on all our things, so never miss a call from someone.....even when I've escaped to the greenhouse!! We tend to Skype friends and family who are abroad. I have used Hangout quite a bit too with one of our sons, and still do occasionally but they now have an Alexa Show too. We were taken on a tour of their upstairs last weekend as they have builders in and are midway through complete renovations ......we are very fortunate to have this technology to hand especially as we are now so far apart. Our other 2 son's all bought their 1st homes in London this year and we've be able to share their moving in experience with them and enjoyed a front row tour of their new homes before the restrictions were lifted....brilliant!
I wouldn’t have a clue how to use it to be honest The only Zoom I Know, was sung by Fat Larry’s Band in the 1980’s
Only for business or association meetings. I usually turn my computer off at 4 p.m. during the week and during the weekdays, I am too busy working (or sometimes playing )for much socializing. I don't care for it much but I am fortunate that none of my family lives too far to see face to face.
I have to use zoom regularly when I have misplaced my reading glasses, great tool, other wise everything is all blurry.
At the start of Covid all work meetings went to Zoom; after about 3 months we switched to MS Teams. I have Skyped and now tend to use Whatsap for the one person outside work prepared to talk to me.
