We had a man in to clean the oven and he showed it to us. A long thin pointed piece of metal inside a metal cover. So I suppose it's a thermocouple. The broken end was dirty so not a new break that he could have caused. I'd need someone to do the job as I can't get down there to do it even if I had the part. :dunno:

      A minor moan:-

I'm reading a novel written by an English author and set in London about 100 years ago - and the spellings in the book are American :wallbanging:. It's published by a UK company (Pan Macmillan), typeset in Falkirk and printed in Croydon! :mute:

Our range gas oven packed up several weeks ago. Online we found a few sites offering 'fixed price' repairs.
We booked a visit at £230 and a pleasant guy turned up bang on time.
He told us that the site we called is just a broad spectrum site that subs all the work out to various technicians.
He gave us his card so that we can call him direct in future and cut out the middle man costs.
(In our case it was just a blocked jet causing the problem)

@shiney there are a lot of people over here who have the dual fuel units. Gas cooking, electric baking. I wouldn't mind a gas cooktop if my halogen one ever packed it in. And that day is looming as the unit is 27 years old. My wall oven is electric and you're right, I wouldn't be switching to gas if it decided to pack it in. I've got easy access to pipe in the gas to that area but I still would be hesitant to try it. I do use the barbecue once in awhile to do gas baking and of course the outdoor wood oven.

I hope you find a repair person who is proficient and affordable!

@JR I am glad to see that people over there appreciate punctuality. I received an email yesterday from a client who thanked us for finishing the job on time and on budget and with no fussing about. We (son and I) finished installing on Saturday and it is pleasant to hear back about things gone well.

Latest moan? Wires. I hooked up the CCTV display to one of those plug in timers and I had made a point of pushing all of the wires along with it's down and out of view. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid! I now have to disentangle them all so as to change the timer for standard time. I've been putting it off because. Well because I don't want to bother with it.

            @CanadianLori
Our range is dual fuel which includes one large gas oven and a smaller electric fan oven.
The hob and grill is gas.
It has a big size 'wok' burner.
The whole setup is a joy to use, but i agree with Shiney that it can be difficult finding a good repair person.

Yes, JR is right, it's a joy to work with a gas range. We have two large gas ovens (one fan assisted), a gas grill and a number of gas hobs including a wok burner. They are all in constant use but it's difficult to find people to service it when something goes wrong (very rarely).

I was talking to a delivery man for Sainsbo's the other day. He told me that people were continuing to order groceries online - there is a definite shift in shopping habits - he was up to his eyeballs in orders.

Thing I've found is that people who walk around the shops (me) - take the items with the longest use by dates - and can walk up to the fishmongers/butchers and choose the tastiest looking fillets/cuts.

Online is not for me - I want to get out and see people - provided they are wearing masks of course....

Which is why I have now come to the conclusion that I will be having the heavy run of the mill stuff delivered and then perhaps a quick look round once or twice a month.

I do similar but get veggies, fruit and meats once a week in store.

We did that at the beginning of the virus hit, but as much as I utterly despise shopping ( all kinds) I prefer to see and select my items, if we didn't have a car that would be a totally different matter.

Heavy and everyday items would get purchased online.:dbgrtmb:

I don't seem to be able to order fresh cooked bread with morrisons delivery, only prepackaged stuff.

Anyway I have what I thought was a bakers just over the road so went in there to get a loaf.
It's a Greggs, found out they don't sell bread either.

We're lucky that we have a baker in the village - and the village shop (Co-op) also bakes bread.

That's a shame pete . We're very fortunate too as we have an independent bakery and a small Co-op that bake fresh bread and pastries etc.....the aroma that drifts around on the breeze is so scrummy!!:)

The odd thing is that Greggs always baked bread and cakes.
But they just do sandwiches now.

Just shows how lazy everyone is around here, they prefer to pay for someone to make sandwiches for them rather than make their own.
