Braved the cold to do some de-thatching of the hardy geraniums and collecting up the last of the leaves. I cut down and covered a large salvia armitad with straw to protect it from further frost - I may be too late but it will have to take it's chance. Green bins this week so I will make sure they are full.

The ground is frozen and I found a stiff sock in the border which had blown off the line last week. It made me smile when I retrieved it.

The sun is shining and my friendly blackbird is eating the apples I put out for her near the back door.

What seed benefits from cold please. I think I have mistakes in the past because of this.

I intended raking leaves and clearing up after the winds (lots of stuff down from the willow tree) but the first job was filling the bird feeders.

Although I have some large birdfeeders they're not a problem - until I found that they were frozen to poles! :hate-shocked:

I sorted all the feeders out and then gave up gardening for the day :dunno:

Thanks Upsy. The only seeds I have in that category are Perennial sweet pea and Verbena.

Potted up 3 rooted cuttings of verbena bonarencess, I know that they're easy with seeds but I wanted to see if they would root, they took a lot of time in water but they do.
