So this is how its going to be now is it?
Sitting around waiting for the next pandemic.

I must admit until a couple of years ago I'd never heard the word, pandemic, looks like they wont be satisfied when this one is under control and will be sorting out the next one.

My synical mind tends to think the "hidden" scientists have had a good long spell in the limelight over the last couple of years and dont want to get put back in the cupboard anymore.

Along with the media doing their best to play it all up.

I wonder what lab, around the world, is cooking up the next one.

And do they know more than they are telling us.

I knew of the 1918 flu pandemic. Does anyone recall the other ones? I don't.

The 57-58 and 68 ones were the Asian 'flus, never heard of the 2009 one which appears to be mostly American based,

I remember the last one ..alias Swine Flu, not many deaths here thankfully.. I was around for 2 others ( very, very young for one and a carefree teenager for the other) so don't recall them. I was in responsible / anxious parent mode in 2009 I expect!!

I clearly remember the 1957 Asian flu (from China), the 1969 Hong Kong flu and the 2009 swine flu.

The 1918 one was the Spanish flu.

I dont remember any of them, are you sure they were Pandemics?

I do remember being a kid in the 1960s and being told about an outbreak of Dysentery. Dont hear of that much now.

More attention was shown to polio, diphtheria I think.

Flu was just something you might catch but cant remember any death toll on the news every night.

                        Nothing new there then.
I never did think the Christmas lockdown last year applied to me anyway.

It was just all the others that made it that way.;)

Just do your own thing and stop watching the TV.

The fact that we are, where we are, now proves none of this makes the slightest bit of difference.

I don't like the limelight, it stings. I just want to be in my garden, talking to my plants.
                          No idea about the media.
I'm not cooking up anything at the moment.
Yes, but you wouldn't be interested.

                            1957 - 33,000 deaths in UK
                            1968 - 20,000 deaths in UK
                            2009 - 474 deaths in UK (28,000 confirmed cases)

1918 - around 250,000 deaths in UK and somewhere around 20 million deaths worldwide (the world figures have varied considerably over the years).

The media didn't do scare mongering in those days.
