My Mrs, daughter and son all got pinged by the NHS app first thing this morning. They all got roughly the same message, they had been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive. Yesterday was the only day the whole family have been together since we went to York Uni a month ago. So, according to the message they had been in close contact, less than 2 meters and for 14 minutes. Well, as I was with them all day yesterday, it could of only been at Costa's. All of us have done a LFT and are ok. So, someone tests positive and decides self isolating does not apply to them.

Unless they tested positive directly after the close contact @gks?

Just been chatting with someone in London with Omicrom virus. She was laid extremely low with the first Covid for weeks. This one, she was low for 2 days but apart from a residual cough, she is recovering quickly. Nowhere near as severe.
Londoners are catching it very fast...city is rife with it.

According to the message, we have been in close contact with someone for 14 minutes who had tested positive. We will have been in close contact with people all day but not for that long, it could of only been when we were having a coffee in Costas. Anyways, I tend to keep my distance when shopping, especially from my Mrs, so not to end up with a light wallet.:heehee:

I was trying to work out why you didn't get pinged, if you were with them all day.
But I'm guessing you dont have the app?

The app is not something I've bothered getting involved with.

I forgot to mention. She said the majority of those in London's hospitals are young and unvaccinated....

Not entirely sure that the link there is age to be fair - there are an awful lot of people that fall into the 'BAME' category in London (possibly even a majority now) and that particular ethnic group have been notoriously difficult to persuade to get vaccinated.

I also struggle a bit with statements like that given that circa 95% of the country are vaccinated to at least two jabs, and further struggle because every time it has been trotted out even by government officials it has been proven to be untrue.

@Jenny namaste, I understood that individuals are not being told which variant they have so how did your friend know it was Omincron ?

Where one of our sons live ( Hackney) it's definitely not down to the young but due to ethnic groups being very hard to persuade and whose apprehension is proving hard to break. Even within these ethnic groups you tend to find their young trying to talk their elders round.
It's the same in the other areas where our other sons live too

I assume it was the speed at which this spread in London and the fact that she has experienced such a mild reaction.
When I view the queus of those coming forward for vaccines , the majority look 30'ish or under?
I think they are seeing it as a way to get a passport to nightclubs ect.

Very many schools in Tower Hamlets are closed until after the holidays because they have too many staff off to be able to open........my granddaughter's Christmas concert had been moved outside to the park opposite but was then cancelled - along with Christmas dinner - as too many positive staff :-(

Our village school had their concert, in the school, on Tuesday. All the classrooms have doors to the outside and they have been open throughout the pandemic. From what I could see they don't seem to be affected when it's cold. We can see them easily as the school is just across the car park from my clubs.
