Your Day (apart from gardening) - what took place?

Just finished the Christmas cake, Sunday I put the marzipan on

Today put the royal icing on, it's not perfect but it's fine, it's on top of a bowl so that i can turn it around.

 

Hi Folks, I received this email from my eldest daughter, Michelle.

Hi Dad,
Went to post your present, they asked what was inside. I said present and Xmas cake. She then told me you can't send a Xmas cake with marzipan on it, as the sniffer dogs think
it's explosive. Any faint trace of it will be enough for them to find, so I can't scrape it off and start again,
sorry!!

Really wanted you to have this cake, recipe from my good friend Joy, who passed away this

I was looking for a couple of decent potted hyacinths, so tried a couple of places and they were not good.
Anyway as I was leaving the second one I spotted a bin full of dirty plastic flower pots and some of those big black ones you find nursery plants growing in stacked up at the side.

So I went back in, bought a pot with three sad looking hyacinths in, for a fiver, and asked if I could have some of the pots.

Help yourself he said, they are only going for recycling.
So I filled my boot, the big ones sell for around £15 each at that very nursery.

 

Aww that's real shame Jonn for both you and your daughter.....you learn something new everyday don't you!!

I collect the the plastic trays that greek yoghurts come in from our local supermarket, they're brilliant for holding the seedling pots in. Before they germinate I place another tray over them as a lid to keep them warm.


I collect slightly bigger black ones from the local In-Excess garden centre, they are used in the greenhouse and cold frames and keeps everything nice and tidy...and I need all the help on offer for this .

 

As they say, if you dont ask, you dont get.

 

To be honest neither me, my Daughter or Grandaughter like Christmas Cake, so I'll buy a nice Chocolate Cake.

These are the In- Excess ones....love them!

 

Top coat applied. I'm quite pleased with how it has turned out - but can't make up my mind about the drawer knobs - leave as pine (the bedstead is white with a pine strip on the head board and foot board) - paint white - replace with decorated ceramic.

For anyone who is interested - I've used up about 200 ml of primer and of top coat on this one cabinet - so have enough paint from a 750 ml tin to do the other cabinets.

 

Looks great @clanless ,can't you perhaps Blutack a few of the knobs back on to get a good visual as to whether they compliment the rest of the furniture or not??

Apparently leather pulls and handles are popular at the moment, they can be a single central loops or two-point fixed handles. Look quite refreshing to me, especially the ones made from recycled, worn belts.

 

@clanless I used the stainless steel T bar handles for my little project gives it a more modern feel , you can get other shapes I saw some in B&M the other day but I got mine off ebay . You could go with brass coloured handles or knobs they is plenty to look at on the internet.

 

Made a double batch of some savory biscotti. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/savory-biscotti-recipe-1948997 Off to a country store, they have a sale of fish and fruit. maybe other things there will inspire me for Christmas dinner. We are going out for Christmas Eve. Using the savory biscotti for part of food gift to friends. Picking up some interesting cheeses and sausages also to add to the gift today.
