The number of NHS staff off with Covid is becoming worrying.
Hope it doesn't end up with there not being enough at work to handle to situation .

It looks like Scott is taking a different approach.

No restrictions - let her rip - unless it looks like the hospitals are starting to struggle.

He reckons that boosting immunity by natural infection is the way to go. He's banking on the assumption that if people see hospitals starting to struggle - they will take the matter into their own hands and change their behaviour to control the spread of the virus. People taking personal responsibility? Boris would be mortified by such a suggestion.

All this, when viewed from a couple of years in the future, seems as useful and remarkably like the Oozlum bird.

Just read this in the Portugal National news ...

"Hospitalizations decrease by up to 45% in those infected with the Omicron variant Hospital admissions of patients infected with the new covid-19 Omicron variant are reduced by between 40% and 45% compared to infections with the Delta variant, reveals a study released by Imperial College London." (Google translated)

I had just read a few minutes before that our daily infections was over 10,000 yesterday but our hospitalisations reduced and we are high percentage with Omicron. Fortunately Algarve only had 328 yesterday, down 30 from the day before.

@Victoria it is the same here. We have had a drastic increase in total number of cases but most are mild or asymptomatic.

However the health care system has not changed the record. There is still loud moaning even though my region (pop. 457K) has 6 patients with covid occupying beds out of their 1,195 total.

            The whinging continues...

Now that it appears that omicron is less likely for you to end up in hospital I notice the news programmes and NHS are putting the emphasis on staff being off sick just to keep the pressure up on anyone thinking they might be able to live normally.

Also just heard that now they are saying the booster is only likely to be effective for around 10 weeks, and we are all likely to need another one in the spring.:dunno:

Is this for real, I think they are just not wanting any kind of normality to return.

I'm only quoting what I have have just heard .
I dont think they want anyone to be optimistic, its not allowed.
Any sign of optimism must be squashed, and that is an order.

I do wonder if the efficacy of the vaccines has been oversold. Sure, they work, but to have to repeat them again and again suggests that they are maybe not just as effective as perhaps our leaders were told initially... and as they've signed on the dotted line for many millions of doses, they are using them up?

Also thinking that there is an awful lot of money to be made here.

I'm not sure I will be willing to take another dose so shortly after the last one, and I'm thinking others may well be thinking the same.
You can only push people so far, at some point the gravy train ends and the bubble bursts.

I accept that some vaccines are annual - flu being a very good example. However, that is a different vaccine each year to take into account mutations of the virus. This is the same stuff being pushed again and again. What is worse to me is the fact that side effects from these vaccines are being played down/pushed aside/hidden - - yet never before have we had as many heart attacks etc in people who are young/fit. One of my staff had her booster a couple of weeks ago, has not been out to catch anything nor have her kids yet she has been ill ever since. I have even had it acknowledged at work that we are working on transport plans due to staff shortages caused by side effects from the vaccines. And I have just heard that people in Nottingham have had dates booked for their FOURTH jab of the same stuff. Four.

Three weeks to flatten the curve, eh?

Yeah, I think the hysteria has to stop soon surely.
Only fear is keeping people in line up to now.

I get the feeling the anti viral drugs may be the long term way out.
If people get an inkling it can be effectively treated they will lose the fear factor.
