All semi hardy indoors, either in cold greenhouse or warmer (9degrees average) Many still flowering, particularly my seed sown Amistad, and of course the wonderful confertiflora! However looking at many of the others, including seedlings in pots, I must learn to take out main growing bud as so many appear etiolated! This fault of mine is also obvious in plants growing in ground.
Last winter we placed a cloche over a well mulched African Skies growing under a large Scots pine, so sheltered. It survived and is still flowering! Obviously will treat it the same this year. In fact I've bought a couple more small cloches to do a similar trick with other plants. In fact I'm wasting one on some late sown Leeks!! I lost the cover of a large cloche in the last storm (I'd planted Broad beans, though think the mice have had them!) Back to Salvias! ...... I've got this plan to protect half hardy Salvias in sheltered spots with small single plant cloches, so I don't have to make room. I've had this way of bringing first year plants inside but now so many, have to be very selective because of room! (Why are some words underlined!!)

I get underlined words when my spell checker doesn't recognise them.
                  Just an idea.

Look out for seed on your Jezebel! Just seen this posting so might be far too late now (January 2022) However if you live in a spot that frost doesn't affect and haven't pruned your plants yet (we do it in Spring down to first green shoots) I've found Jezebel to be a very easy plant to grow with a bright red flower and big enough shrubby height!so being able to collect seed AS WELL! Is wonderful!

The only salvia I ever had work for me which continued blooming well into Autumn too were some lovely red bedding salvias my Mum bought for me from Asda. They were fab but plugs I bought from Thompson & Morgan and seeds of Salvia Seascape I grew last year were just very disappointing and not what I'd hoped for. Hey ho ..l win some, lose some I guess. I'm sticking to dwarf dahlias this year .. can't wait.

You must try Salvias again! Try S. patens, the best blue there is, a robust plant and it develops tubers AND seeds!
