Lawn from scratch

So at the start of what was a dire spring, i found my lawn was littered with couch grass. So i doned the glysophate spray and killed it all and startee again……

once it had all died, i scarified off the top layer, i added

15 x 25ltr bags of top soil
12 x 50ltr bags of compost
6 bags of sharp sand
2 kg of grass seed



the above was done on the 2nd of june, 4wks later with lots of watering, some very hot weather in the first few weeks, its now looking like this





few patches to seed over, but it looks so good for just 4wks old

 

I'm on the same job for the same reason.

Your lawn looks fantastic mate, or it will do when you sort the thin patches.

I'd have a problem with the watering at this time of year so I'm aiming for seeding in September.

I am also considering laying turf but again the watering puts me off so atm my mind is still on a seeding job.

 

It was really hot the 1st two weeks i seeded it……i wascwatering 4/5 times a day, its a good job i work from home really

 

When you say watering, do you mean just keeping it damp or do you mean giving it a decent drink?

 

A good decent drink…..im 1500ft up in the welsh valleys, whenits warm everything just dries out real quick…..even last week after two days of rain, the ground the next day dried and cracked real quick when the sun came out.

but it doesnt need as much now….a good soaking in the morning and thats it

Yeh i am, its been hardwork keeping it damp and making sure all the patches caught up with the other grass……but im well happy with how its turned out

After 8wks

 

Just been out and laid some seed down on some patchy areas and gave the grass a good drink…..been pretty dry up here now for a few days, so it was needed.

 

Im about to ruin and then rebuild/replant my lawn again…..am i crazy lol.

So the garden slopes from front to back, so im putting in a 6x4 sleeper retaining wall, at 300mm high to take the slope out of the first half of the garden. Before then flattening off the 2nd half next year.



Thats the first row of sleepers fitted, will build the step next, before adding the next lift. I ahve also face all my planter boxes i built last year with 6x2s as well, to make them look more chunky and better.

You're a glutton for work @jowwy ! My garden is so muddy, I wouldn't attempt to work on it at the moment. I'm thinking I may wait till about 2025...
