Good morning everyone , hope you're all in fine form this morning!!

Our forecast shows it to be sunny with a bit of blue sky even...don't let it fool you..it's dreary, foggy and not a trace of blue to be seen anywhere!! I live with optimism! :dbgrtmb:

Whatever the weather try and have a great day.:spinning:

Good Morning Upsydaisy, we have the same weather here but the ground is damp from the fog, I’m hoping the sun pops out, I want to fill my bird feeders. my hubbies throat infection as not cleared completely so he’s had to ring 111 for another consultation for more antibiotics, I keep telling him to also take a few days off work to let his body rest.
Think I may have to buy some custard slices now! It’s your fault Michael :psnp::heehee:

Good morning @Flumpy , so sorry to hear that hubby is still unwell, hope he gets sorted out soon.

Yes definitely Michael's the guilty culprit, teasing us with the thought of delicious Custard Slices....I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he's going to make us some tomorrow.:fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed:

He’s just spoken to the doctor and he’s sorted another course of antibiotics, if it’s not cleared after that then they want to investigate :dbgrtmb:

Michael are you sending custard sliced to the NW ? :heehee:

            Good day
I'm very late. I've been trying to juggle watching recorded episodes of Corrie to catch up with the ones that had already aired this morning before I got my lazy behind out of bed! Well, actually, I forgot what day of the week it is. The days seem to blend into each other lately

Going to start some laundry at the next commercial break and then have some leftovers for breakfast.

I'm sorry to hear your hubby is under the weather @Flumpy and I hope the antibiotics do a quick job of curing his throat. They always seem to work long before the last dose you are required to take :)

            Cheers all, :coffee:
            Lori

I doubt the custard slices will materialize on Monday, I was thinking of something easier to start with, I haven't baked anything for years.
My grandfather was a baker, and his father before him. My mother used to enjoy baking too, she used to make wedding cakes for people.
When I eventually make the slices I'll share them out :dbgrtmb:

I hope your husband will be better soon @Flumpy.

Yes I get that too, I never know what day it is  they're all the same since I've retired,
but it makes no difference really, I just do what I want whatever the day is called

Two layers of pastry with thick custard between them, and icing on the top.
I think I'll have to make some for you to see (sometime in the future )

I'm sure that whatever you make will be lovely Michael.:dbgrtmb:
My Grandfather was a baker too!!! I have some of his very large baking books, bread, pastries and some very old recipes dating back over a 100 years. The only problem is they are for very large numbers as he went on to have his own restaurant in London. My Mum worked with him for a while and she became well known in the area for her ' light as a feather' pastry. Unfortunately none of us took after her with regards to pastry making .....passable.. just about!
                    Very interesting books though.

What a coincidence @Upsydaisy , and I also have some books where my great-grandfather wrote out recipes in the 1890s and early 1900s. And the same as with you the recipes are for large numbers because they sold their wares in a shop and delivered bread to all the hotels in the town.
The family came originally from the Barnstaple area and every year they'd make cakes and take them on a ship across the Bristol channel to sell in Barnstaple fair.

Thank you for the recipe link.
