I have 7 7 pot yellow seedlings now and one bhut jolokia that are ready for potting up. I'll do that tomorrow morning :) I don't like to disturb the light cycle so I either take care of these jobs after 7 p.m. or before 7 a.m. when the lights are on.

I'm growing de Cayenne hot pepper and Corno di Toro sweet pepper. Just sown in the heated propagator today. My first time growing from seed so very excited to watch them grow.

Good to see you you've started your superhots nice and early. I've found they need a long growing season to maximise the harvest. I have finished buying seeds now and I spent today installing the electrics into the greenhouse ready for propagators, hydroponics and fans. I will plant my seeds soon, in the next 2 weeks I think when the electrics are finished. I have a grow-tent with heating and lighting ready for them.

          Hello Garrett,
Good to hear you are giving Chilis a go. Cayenne is a good plant to start with as it is resistant to nasties and fruits relatively early. Its also the right sort of heat for cooking with. One if my favourites.

Need to move my tray into the garage where there is more space and lights. Some of my older seeds look like they wont do anything, but I have enough plants now, assuming most of these make it

              Hanglow,

              Plants are looking good.

You are another grower that has started good and early. I must get my seeds growing soon.

Yes - I had real trouble growing Hungarian hot wax. The few that germinated didn’t thrive for me. Should try again perhaps and get the watering a bit better organised this year. I’ll try to get some seeds

We haven't started ours off yet. We shall bring them on indoors this year. Our old propagator in the greenhouse more or less fell apart last year. I had built it in 1976 but am no longer up to making a new one (quarter of a ton of sand and gravel to be removed and replaced) so got a builder friend to do it for me. The 45 year old heating cable didn't survive the dismantling and we weren't able to find one as powerful . Couldn't find one in the country at the time :dunno:.

We've ended up with a 20 metre cable that works OK but can't keep the temperature up high enough during the very cold nights in the cold greenhouse. We always start the chillies off indoors anyway as our place is always warm and when germinated we have them by the patio doors in the lounge - all glass and 14ft wide and 7ft high and south facing. We shall have to keep them indoors longer than usual but that won't be a problem.

We're only going to grow ShineyHybrids this year and already have orders for 20 of them. I don't think we shall be growing Nagas (unless Mrs Shiney knows otherwise  :heehee:) although orders are coming in. :noidea: We're cutting back on plants for sale this year but already have orders for 500 runner bean plants and those are easy to grow and a very quick turn round.

Hmm: I optimistically put my chillies to germinate in my new greenhouse. You know how it is: you get a really nice piece of kit and somehow think it's magic and capable of anything. Of course that greenhouse might be great n'all, but it is still just a greenhouse. I kept a few chillies from last year to see if they would over winter and they really are not loving it right now - the past 2 weeks in particular as the temperature has gone down over night.

I have built a hot box in there but failed entirely to find the time to get out and collect the manure to go in it: it's really irritating because it's not far from home, and the lady with the horses puts it in a nice pile to get it off the grass. All I have to do is put a tarp down in the back of the car and go and shovel. I'm travelling now for 2 weeks so if the chillies haven't germinated while I'm away, I'll bring them in and plant more in case the original ones have rotted... hey ho. Actually: could just get the missus to bring them in now.

I learn a lot from this site...even when folks aren't intending to! Thanks!

Checked my peppers this morning. My two Cayenne have germinated and one of my sweet Corno di Toro too.

Picked up some ripe serenade peppers from waitrose today, looks like a serano type. Might try them as well.

                            Hello Chili lovers,

I have finally finished installing mains into my larger greenhouse. We are ready for the season ahead. I can now grow my plants hydroponically as I have power for the water pumps and air pumps/air stones. My next job is to get some chili and tomato seeds germinated in my garage grow tent.

Pictures of the finished greenhouse installation....

Each pair of boxes has 2 normal mains sockets plus one timed mains socket.

I feel that I've fallen behind a bit as I haven't planted any seeds yet, but this week I will. All my seeds are now bought so now nothing is holding me back.

                            Best regards

                                Hello all,

Well, I finally got my chili seeds planted. I've used the paper towel method to set them on their way to germination. I'm still waiting for 2 or 3 types of seed to arrive in the post but apparently they have been despatched.

I'll start my tomatoes a bit later in the year as they are quicker growing and the chilis need an earlier start.

When do you start your tomatoes?

                                Regards
