OK! As soon as there is some growth, I'll go for it. Thank you.

      Hi Jimmy
Take a heal cutting they root quite easily. At the moment I'm experimenting with leaving again a heel cutting in water .I use this method many times and I'm quite successful . But over time your shrub will throw up suckers. These are easily controlled .. I have dug up many and planted in other areas. Even at 6 inch they have enough rooting to transplant.

Thanks so much: it's a fairly small plant right now - garden centre for £12 job. So there isn't much to cut yet! But a heal cutting or two would be possible certainly. I assume though I shouold wait till it is actively growing? And the suckers sound great! I've taken a few from a great Bonne de Jersey pear tree we inhereited with our house: it's absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, friends have taken all of them but I'll do a few more this year...

          Which aliums do you have..?
In my shady corner I have the ones which are around 6 inch high. I can't remember the name but they come in pink ,yellow and white. Grow in clumps to give effect ,these brighten areas which are in the shade.
Also as they smell of garlic the cats keep clear so I've planted some close to the hawthorn boundaries. Our dogs give them a wide berth too !!!!

All this talk of nettles has reminded me that I have some very sorry looking lamium White Nancy that are in need of a permanent home. If I can get them to take then I would have ground cover pretty much sorted.

@Upsydaisy I once made a smelly fertilizer from rhubarb leaves, not again.
