Not Garden Beds but ones for Sleeping on

Seems a lot has changed since our last bed, ( no, this century , honest  ) most seem to have memory foam in them and are single sided so you cannot turn them over to extend thier life.

We have visited the usual big name stores but so far not seen anything suitable, and some of the smaller stores , well, would not even like to try out their grubby looking showroom beds.

A few folk we know have said they found memory foam too hot in summer, though the retailers then say they now have these gel coats etc etc :rolleyespink:

Wondered what your experiences of these modern beds are and if memory foam is still problematic.

There are some small companies who do supply traditional double sided tufted mattresses with traditional fillings though they are not local or do not have a showroom, so cannot try before you buy, though they do say you can return it for a full refund in 30 days for any reason.

I've had a memory foam bed in the past that I paid a good price for and would never have another one. The problem is they lose their memory fairly quickly and the foam doesn't spring back, becoming a permanent concave. I also bought a memory foam pillow a couple of years ago that contained the cooling gel on one side, but my head got so cold I opened the casing of the pillow and peeled it off.

Most mattresses tend to be one sided now. The bed I bought 4 years ago from 'Dreams' has a sprung mattress (made to order) with more than the usual amount of springs and is really comfortable. Mr S and I have different requirements so one half is soft, the other medium, which form the complete mattress without it being joined by a zip etc. Both halves of the mattress are showing very little wear.

It's the first time we've bought from 'Dreams' and were happy with their service - the assistant we dealt with was very helpful with our needs. They have a range of beds/mattresses from traditional to modern and prices to suit everyone. It's worth taking a look if you have one near you. I don't think it really needs to be said, but with beds you get what you pay for and should buy the best you can afford.

We have bought our last two mattresses from Bensons for Beds.
One we bought for home 8 years ago when the original one wore out - i.e. a blooming great spring shot through the covering. The second was at the caravan when we both were complaining of achy backs. A new firm mattress cured that. The price range on mattresses is huge , so you need to do your research of what type you want.

Thanks both, yes we have looked in Dreams and Bensons, have some larger stores not too far away.
First went into Dreams looking more for a softer bed, but they could not offer much, though now realize we should be looking more at a medium, so will call back in again and see what they have, though its a bit of a job findng ones without memory foam.

We also went back to a long establish local bed supplier we got our last one from and found the beds they recommended quiet comfy, but had not heard of that make, back home we looked on that manufacturers site and they had a trust pilot review 25% 5 star but 75% just 1 or 2 star,
something very wrong there ! No replies to the negative comment from them either.

Wondered if you have ever come across these folk and their beds, plus a massive web site detailing their views on beds.

I've just bought a mattress two week ago it took me months to pick one. I asked around about memory foam and from some of my friends its really hot and it more a less makes a imprint of your body shape after a while, Latex is supposedly superior spring back better and is cooler .

I added up buying mine online I went to a shop and felt like a idiot laying on them I don't really think you know until you've slept on it for a few weeks whether you like it are not .
I got a Rest assured Minerva Pocket sprung 2000 with natural filling apparently natural filling breath better I am not so sure, its defiantly warmer than my old sprung mattress which was effectually hollow and like a jab to my ribs was cooler but not comfier . I have got anything to compare it with so I'll have to take their word for it .

I were surprised :yikes: how expensive mattress were I got mine off Mattressonline it was delivered next day, it were a gamble I can't send this particular mattress back I just got fed up of looking in the end it were just shy of £400 on a deal.

I haven't heard of them , I did the same looked on trust pilot for a few brands I'd not heard of , it put me off when they had low ish star rating, Millbrook was one even though the mattress look quite decent.

I purchased our bed and mattress from wayfair.co.uk, set me back over £700 for a king size mattress. They have a huge range to choose from, think all their mattresses come with a free 100 night trial.

Yes it fine so far the materials are still settling yet, you are supposed to turn them weekly single sided ones for the first so many months. It were quite firm to begin with ( its classed as Medium ) but its softening up now. If I stay in one spot I do sink into the top layers of the mattress, I can tell they is a imprint cause I move a lot I am a poor sleeper I couldn't sleep a wink first night . I am getting used to it now so I am sleeping better than my old mattress.

I couldn't tell you the difference regarding the pocket springs I don't think I am heavy enough to notice I am about 150 pound if that's any use to you , I think the spring count will be more noticeable with a couple. The whole bed used to move with my old mattress this one doesn't move at all .

This cheap Lidl Meradiso mattress launches in stores on Sunday – Which? News

We bought this for one of our guest bedrooms.....well it only made it as far as our room!!

Love it!! I have arthritis and we've always looked for fairly pricey mattresses. But 3 years on and it still looks new and is so very comfy. The initial difference was it made the bed low as it's not a very thick mattress....in fact it was hard to believe that it would offer such brilliant support by looking at it....but it certainly does. 3 years later and there are no ' imprints' or ' roll togethers' .We have the king size one and would certainly recommend it..especially as it was under £100!!!!

I can also flip the mattress without any help from hubs, could never do that before. The cover is also removable for washing.

Another thing to consider is the removal of the old mattress. The company's like Bensons and Dreams will take your old mattress for a small fee. Most council recycling sites will not take mattresses.

I bought a bed and mattress from these guys about 15 years ago. Really good quality, comfortable as anything. The friendly assistant even joined me on the bed to help me see how comfy it is with two people  She got the sale!

We bought our new bed from Benson Beds and it is superb. The mattress has a summer side and a winter side. We went for a bed with a couple of drawers in the base but my wife now wishes we had gone for the style that tips right up so she could store all the spare bedding underneath.
