NHS Green Passport Scam !

Just got an email , supposedly from the NHS, requesting me to apply for a Covid Green Passport. Saying I must reply within 12 hours. Obviously raising suspicion. Looked at the application site, and by page 2 it was requesting credit card details ! Unfortunately some will be scammed by this.

 

Also had one of them yesterday, though it was to an old and little used email account we kept mainly for Preloved.

Just ran that email address though the 'Have I Been Pwned' checker expecting it have been compromised, but no, they say not.
Worth changing your email account password if you get mail like that, better safe .....

They said on the news that the NCSC was being strengthened and working closer with GCHQ but thats unlikey to do much to catch these low level thieves and even if they did whats going to happen, a slap on the wrist as usual, Vote Judge Dredd !

 

Unfortunately With prices increasing so will lowlife scammers theives etc so beware its just disgusting yet some love taking advantage of people misery

 

They did get someone for £25000 but their bank refunded them.

It's a very clever scam and one that anyone can fall for.

 

Ricky, that site in itself looks dodgy to me.
I'm probably thick but I can't see why if you get a suspect email scam you need to worry about changing the password to your email account.

 

Cripes I wouldn't leave that much money in my current account. I leave a 5k 'float' in mine which qualifies me with free banking and a small interest paid. Anything more than that I transfer over to other investments for a better return. (did well last year I had 12% net growth) Nonetheless I wouldn't like my 5k swiped.
These people are a menace.

 

Understand you saying that but its a well trusted site thats quoted by places like Which, NCSC and MSE etc.

More than likely they have not attempted to break into your email account, having just picked up the email address from somewhere, but it would not hurt to change the emails password to be sure.
Use several email addresses so if any get compromised have plenty of others to switch to.

A lot of folk only have one email address for all their online work, which can be problematic.

As they they are mostly free accounts eg Gmail / Microsoft Outlook etc its worth having one just for your Banking and nothing else, one for general web stuff like here, and one for shopping / family mails etc.

Another very good protection against the hackers is to take system backups of your hard drive, so if anything goes wrong, you can just restore the hard drive to a few days or weeks earlier before your computer got infected. Also gives you protection should your hard disk fail or Microsoft updates kill your system etc.
