I thought a square meter was flat and a cubic meter was cubic ... so not flat .... therefore you can't have a cubic meter in a square meter,

Are you sure the wording is correct @pete ?

            I did but I don't understand it ...
I can't see how a cube can go into a square. A cube has 6 sides and a square is flat.
I was never any good with maths, I'm better at growing cacti :dbgrtmb:

              I didn't understand it either.
At first I thought it was to calculate how many cubic meters you would need to cover a square meter at a certain thickness.
But I cant see any thickness stated.

If you wanted to cover a square meter you'd have to know the thickness e.g. if a hole was one meter square you'd have to know how deep it was as well.
              I can't really understand it ...
              Maybe someone will

Well a square metre is a measure of area ie 2 dimensional. A cubic meter is a measure of volume, 3D. Pretty obvious. The two units have no relationship, what are you trying to do?

Square metre is surface area, if you covered a square meter with a cubic metre, then you will have a thickness of 1 metre.

A cubic metre will not cover a surface any bigger than a square meter but it will have the extra dimension. Of course, if you take it one step further you will have a Tesseract. :roflol:
