Both the manager and the players are dillholes. They both made their choices and I hope they pay for it.

The most disturbing part I find is that they thought it would be funny and decided to video it.
If they then uploaded it because they thought it would make others laugh, I dont know, but he and his mate/ brother? should be banned from ever owning animals.

What I don't understand is that the club have fined him £250,000 - which is two weeks pay. It may hurt him a little bit but I haven't heard what the club will do with the money. It seems wrong for them to keep it and just have their bank account bigger. It should go to animal charities.

The RSPCA are still looking at whether to prosecute him.

The club have stated that the fine will be donated to animal welfare charities but they should go further and make a donation themselves for playing him in last nights game.

When fining people, I'd rather like it to be percentage of income. Make it hurt. Stupid should hurt and be remembered and learned from

"Dillholes"? I like that. Nearly as good as "Dingbats" :heehee: English language is brilliant in all of its forms, shapes, nooks and crannies!

That's what they have in Finland for normal fines. The the fine is set for a number of days and the fine depends on your average daily income i.e. you get 30 day fines for speeding, and if you are a low income person it could be a tenner a day, and if you are Ari Vatanen, £15000 a day. I call that fair. :blue thumb:

Forever? I am nervous about this thing of permanent sanction: it removes the possibility of rehabilitation or redemption. I imagine that the best justice is restorative (not much scope here) and redemptive: people have to think they can come back. I believe that the evidence (Norway for eg) is that it's also cheaper to administer and reduces reoffending.

The Norwegians also match fines to income. @shiney do you think there are any Scandinavians with no income?:smile:

I don't know about Norwegians but I know a few people here who have virtually no income. I work with a lot of people on extremely low pensions or very low benefits. I help them with their claims. :noidea:

@shiney yes - absolutely. I was being a bit flippant - apologies. I find it terrifying in the UK how many people are now trying to exist on seriously inadequate incomes. It's awful. And across the age spectrum too - from young to old. I don't know why this is not a screaming political priority...

What is the matter with sales staff these days? I finally decided to get off my bum and take back a deep cycle battery that I used in my solar power array. It was 7 years old and had served me well. So I had to haul that thing up from the cellar and out to the van. Then to the store and load it in a cart to roll up to the automotive service counter. That is where the batteries are sold.

I was returning the battery because we pay a "core" charge when we buy them and it is refundable if we return them for proper disposal. So I bought exactly the same battery again. The fellow plunked the thing into the child carrier section and directed me out the service doors rather than going back out the automatic main ones. Got part way through these non automatic doors and the cart got caught on a handle. I had to try to pull it loose and got my hand crushed between the door and the cart. Then when I got to the van, the battery was indeed hard jammed in there. A massive amount of pulling and repositioning was needed to get it out and into the van.

All this time there were three young men sitting at their stations watching me struggle with this 65 lb battery. More than half my body weight.

I can't decide whether I should send a letter of complaint to the head office.

p.s. pretty good typing for someone with purple fingers eh? ... :heehee:

                        p.p.s. moan over.. :)

Well the opposition are far too worried sorting out historic parties at number 10 to bother about pushing the government hard on the cost of living rises.

As you probably know I don't care much for "offence" generally, but that was a truly stunning example of ignorance and prejudice that shocked even me! The combination of anti-semitic tropes (she apparently adopted the surname "Goldberg" to get ahead in Hollywood in one of her explanations for the adoption, as if no Jew has ever hired or promoted a non-Jew and apparently completely buying into the demonstrable untruth that Jews run Hollywood! :wallbanging:), ideological possession (she's into Critical Race Theory so only white-on-black racism exists) and sheer historical illiteracy (being completely oblivious to the Nazi worldview and their racial pseudoscience) just absolutely blew my mind!

I liked John Podhoretz's concise and powerful response to her absurd comments here and I hope she reads it and learns from it, tho I strongly doubt either will happen... :frown::dunno:

Drop the Goldberg name you co-opted, Whoopi -- you don't deserve it

                            Nick
