I need help please regarding cabbage seeds.
Do I put them in tiny pots and keep indoors for now? Also when do I repot them and put them outside? what size pot do I need to put them into?

    Thanks in advance

Hi @Kelc I usually start mine off in 3inch square pots, about 6 to a pot. Much depends on the variety as to when to sow and plant out. I germinate mine indoors, you need to slightly cover the seeds and keep about 20c and damp not soaking wet. They don't need light to germinate but as soon as they do you need a well lit spot for them, a south facing window sill ideally. If you have a greenhouse they would be better in there once germinated assuming you can keep it frost free.

They will need repotting after a few weeks, into individual pots when they start to look crowded.

Once germinated you need to find somewhere cooler and bright, otherwise they can go leggy.

Thankyou, how bigger pot do they eventually need to go in?

If you don't have 3" pots to start them you can improvise with say yoghurt pots, cut a hole in the bottom for drainage though.

For potting on ideally you use a container with an extra inch. With cabbages I only pot on once, sometimes into a seed tray evenly spaced. You can quickly run out of bench space if you have lots of seedlings coming on.

Only sow a few seeds at one go, the packet will keep till next year or longer stored in a cool dry place. Sorry that does sound obvious but it's tempting to sow all seeds at once and end up with them coming up like cress. I tend to sow 6 seeds every couple of weeks, it means they eventually mature at different times for harvest.

They're huge! And I really want some red ones: apparently the cabbage whites don't like them as much as well...all sounds good. Though I will put mesh over them when I plant them out (actually - not sure I should be giving away that kind of competition secret!)
