Sadly most of our domestic problems were just as bad when Labour were in power although there were probably slightly more benefits for the unemployed (which there were a lot more of statistically) However we can probably agree on one thing, and that's that at least we have democratic voting choice. Another thing we can probably agree on, is that Putin is the most hated person on the planet right now.
Well I don't think things have really changed that much, most of what you describe has been going on for years, it's just that you get to dwell on it these days. I know I have had more privilege in my life time than my parents and they had a better lifestyle than their parents. I think we just expect or want more. There has always been those that have and those that haven't, the wealth will never be spread evenly.
Well it certainly depresses me.....I've literally cried during the news. What is up with us humans...we are supposedly the most intelligent life form on our planet , and all we're doing is killing our own people and killing our planet. Everyone is just plain greedy and continuously seeks more and more from other countries and from the environment. I was taught well by my parents and so were our brood...you can't always get what you want. People should stop getting stroppy when they can't have their own way, and stop throwing their toys out of their pram...people are getting hurt. Something else I was taught ..it's not nice inflicting pain on any living being. Don't say I've over simplified it.....I haven't, this is all down to us , greedy , domineering humans who want to rule the world.
What a great leader Volodymyr Zelensky ... "I don't need a ride, I need ammunition" Balls of steel. I'd vote for him.
Especially against the backdrop of Justin Trudeau running off into hiding when the truckers that he had angered decided to protest...
I have to give the EU a cheeky thumbs up - for the way they are collectively responding to Russia. Russia has already threatened to cut off the gas supply - which will really hurt Germany - but fair play - they have fallen in line with the rest of the EU. Perhaps now would be a good time to crack on with sorting out the new North Sea oil/gas fields. Britain sees a "good, solid" future for the North Sea's oil and gas industry and will issue new licences to expand output in the future, Energy Minister Greg Hands said on Tuesday.
It took a hell of a lot of pressure for Germany to fall in line with the rest of the EU though - pressure that should not have been needed to be honest.
It did - and not just because of the economic hit - they were struggling to reconcile with their past. But - in the end - they have done the right thing. Putin has apparently been on TV to tell the Russians that sanction will not have any impact on prices - cor- is he in for a rude awakening. EU have also blocked the Russian Central Bank from accessing their international reserves. Who would have thought that a system developed to control people could be used to protect their freedoms.
@Fat Controller you are dead on about our Hair Piece. He is a coward and he only gets voted back in because the Toronto people have a load of seats and they are all mesmerized by this idiot. I remember watching a CBC show where a rep from the Ukraine was asking for our help with munitions and the stupid hostess was soft pedaling and spouting CBC (Justin Trudeau) propaganda. This was only three weeks ago that our top idiot was acting as though the situation really wasn't serious! I felt like putting my foot through the TV I was that angry. @clanless we have lots of oil and our stupid provinces east of Ontario will not allow a pipeline to bring Canadian oil to their refineries. They'd rather use Saudi or Russian oil. More idiots. I hope the economic sanctions help and I also hope the dark web does an efficient reverse hack of the Russian hackers interference.
When you put yourself at the mercy of a hostile neighbour by buying a large part of your energy from them it's going to hurt hard,so in some ways its understandable. The wisdom of these decisions are now coming home to roost.
I wish I was young enough and fit enough to enlist in the International Brigade that will form. Just as my Uncle did in Spain in 1937.
I knew it would follow - he has nothing left really. Trouble is, he has next to now't to lose by it either. All we can do is give Trident a dust off and sit and wait.
Putin is transparent - he thinks that NATO are building up forces on the border of Ukraine - so that we can re take Ukraine. He is a bully - his actions can be predicted - because he is so willing to use force to can get what he wants - he thinks that his enemies will do the same. I would reckon that he has been taken aback by the world's response - he's on his own and we are bashing Russia without even firing a bullet.
Looking at the images of his generals when he made the announcement... they don't look overly chuffed with him either. One news outlet (might have been Express?) said that they've lost over 4000 soldiers and over 140 tanks so far, so to some degree they are getting a bit of a spanking. I saw footage last night where the Ukrainian folks had been smart enough to have a mass of molotov cocktails which they were literally raining down on the tanks. Given enough petrol and flames, even a tank will burn.
