Luckily ours "check in" every half hour or hour and she prefers to be in. They both like creature comforts and he is petrified of people. I worry if they disappear but they only have the orange groves to go to, where he came from originally.

        Cute Misty @JWK :cat-kittyandsmiley:

I don't think I'd like a house cat, I'd be afraid of opening a window. I always have the windows open, and usually the back door is wide open too especially in nice weather.

Bella was an indoor cat before she came here at two years old, but we let her out and she enjoys prowling in the hedgerows and sleeps in the garden under the shrubs in summer time. She also totally REFUSES to use cat litter.

In the winter she refuses to go out except for 5 minutes to her toilet ...

I suppose it's different if you live in a busy town or flat.

A lovely posh place for Misty to sit enjoying the garden.

Ours just take whatever chair/cushion they fancy. They only have the small windowsill in the lounge to look out (they are not permitted on the kitchen counters) as windows have sills on the outside here in old cottages.

We have child locks on all the windows, the front door is never opened (all the couriers know to come to the side door) and we have a "catlock" system at the side door where the door between the kitchen and the back hall is the inner and the outside door the outer. Both doors are never opened at the same time (unless the shopping is being delivered then the kitchen door is shut). It is a faff but better than losing a cat. There is a bus route at the bottom of our garden and it is also the main route to the local school.

I don't think I'd like a cat on the kitchen counters. Neither Bella or any other of our cats have tried to jump up there but I know of some that do. I don't think it's hygienic.

My sister's cat was a housecat before she had her, so the owners said ,and she apparently wouldn't go out and spent most of her days upstairs on a bed.

Well she's the complete opposite now loves mooching around my sister's garden and loves company....when you sit on the sofa she jumps up and lays across the back and drapes herself around you like a scarf!!! :heehee: IMG_20210414_160047_hdr.jpg

Agree we always had cats when we were children and they were trained not to jump up on work surfaces too.:dbgrtmb:

Following from saying my furries don't have windowsills to sit on, Van loves to sit one meter from the door looking through the closed catflap. The catflap is mounted on a screen door with a perspex bottom section. The back door is kept open from 8am till their dinner time so they have access to go out/come in at will.

This is the catflap, and Van in July 2014 before we adopted him when he was not allowed to come in. It took him until December before he figured how the catflap worked!
