It drives you barmy doesn't it Pete? Having said that I well understand the need for security, especially with a government department. I was actually trying to transfer my pension payments to a new bank account and know that fraud is always an issue.

The worst is the automated IVR where you asked to "clearly say your postcode" and then "sorry, didn't quite get that, can you please repeat" and after that hurdle you are asked to "clearly state your question", "sorry, didn't quite get that, can you please repeat"... and so on. I tried to book a taxi one day and massively failed the attempt because Mr AI didn't recognise my address.

Give me numbers to press any time please.

OK, on that note, BT Italia did the unforgettable. When I got my first Italian mobile phone, I listened through the options, and the last one told me, in Italian, that in case I didn't speak any Italian and wanted to hear the options in English, "premere nove"

You got me started on telephony...

The waiting music on BT fault reporting line was perhaps unintentional, but classic. ABBA's "Ring, ring, why don't you give me a call" :loll:

When I get those questions I don't say anything and after a couple of times of them saying "I didn't get that please say it again" it says it will put me through to someone who can deal with it. :blue thumb:

That's why I normally phone for quotes. I did that just the other week, for both our cars, and for the first time ever I didn't get an acceptable low quote. So I went to Confused.com (recommended by Which?) and successfully got a whole series of quotes that were as fully comprehensive as I wanted (it asked me to tick all the things I wanted included) and ended up accepting a quote almost 50% less than I had been asked by my existing insurer.

The company is called Flow, which I had never heard of, and after checking who they were it turns out they are the new online version of LV (used to be Liverpool Victoria) a good company. They only work online but respond quickly to emails.

As a bonus for booking through Confused we received a £20 voucher from Confused for each insurance.

Not a problem with the DWP today @Jack McHammocklashing. I spoke to someone this time who was much more forthcoming and without an attitude. Thanks again for your advice, although it wasn't needed. :)

I belong to a number of organisations and received an email today headed "A message from the Chair". So I deleted it immediately as I don't accept emails from furniture!
