I sowed broad beans in modules a few weeks ago but otherwise this last weekend was the first major sowing of the year IMG_20220221_105727747.jpg

My peas (Kelvedon Wonder and Shiraz) are romping away in my friend's greenhouse.

I sowed my curcubits this morning. Two seeds each of courgettes Ola Polka and Rondo. Also a few cucamelons, just out of curiousity.

Just the French beans and a few more herbs/baby leaves to sow.

All I've done so far is planted some shallots last week in my raised bed. There's nothing showing on them yet but the weather has gone very cold so I don't blame them.

Isn't it a touch early for courgette etc? You can bin the cucamelon by the way, ruddy terrible! I tried as an experiment some years ago and very disappointed!

Yeah, it is a bit early, but the seeds are getting a bit long in the tooth, so I want to know if I need to buy fresh.

The cucamelons sounded such fun! Oh, well. I can always fob the plants off on the neighbours. :psnp:

They were a definite novelty but that's about it. I'd had such high hopes for them too lol

James Wong likes cucamelon. Not that I've tried them.

I also tried them for a couple of years and have not gone back to them. Tomatillos are another that are easy to grow but I still have some in my freezer from two years ago :rolleyespink:

I have planted modules of radish, all onions, all peas for both shoots and peas/pods. Also tried an early sowing of parsnip and carrot, I'll probably have to sow them again though. Will plant potatoes this weekend i think.

Also my overwintered salads are really producing now.

I only found cucamelon to grow well in the greenhouse and even then the fruit wasn't anything that tasted good to me.
But then peoples tastes do vary.

I prefer Cape gooseberries, and they grow outdoors well enough.

I finally got round to creating a veg plan this year! On the back of a rice krispies box lol
Just wondering what to follow onions, garlic and the broad beans with come summertime.
So far the plan includes onions, garlic, carrots, peas, climbing french beans, parsnips, beetroot, courgettes, chinese kale, nero di toscana (kale) and broad beans

I don't follow onions with much at all as I don't lift them until August.
                        A late sowing of beetroot?
I'm usually going for the green manure by then.

I've got a good range of veg started safely under cover.
                          However I've got one failure.
I sowed courgettes, Crown Prince squash, and uchiki kuri squash all on the same day, in the same moist compost and put them all in the airing cupboard.
One week later all the courgettes and crown Prince were up, but no sign of the uchiki kuri's... I've left them in for 2 more weeks, but no sign.
Can I ask for advice? I checked Google which suggests soaking the seeds for a few hours, so I've started some more but I'm not confident.
I pulled one seed back out and it appears intact with no mould.
I was looking forward to having these smaller japenese variety squash but I'm flummoxed!
                          Any advice appreciated

Most likely duff seed, the packet says 'germination guaranteed' so you should get a refund at least.
