The video is worth a watch, especially the part where there is a sign stating, this charger is out of order and has been for 11 months.

 

Interesting that one charging point was available but not compatible with her van?
Are they saying that there is more than one system?
Is it not all compatible.

 

Both these cases seem fair to me. The supermarkets and parking bays allow you to top up while shopping. Not to fully charge your car. Doing that is unfair to other EV shoppers.

@shiney I shop at Tesco Extra so the parking area is large. Last week there was only one car using the charging point while I was there. Tesco are providing top up charging for those shopping in the store and not for all day use. This is also free, so I think they deserve a pat on the back for providing the service. It's a good start and hopefully others will follow suit.

I know that some, if not all Premier Inn Hotels have all day charging points. If more business chains took up the idea then it would help promote the idea of owning an electric vehicle. The cost of buying one of these vehicles is high at the moment and I think those that can afford them are shy of the idea because of the lack of charging facilities.

 

I see charging points in most retail car parks around here but I think the chances of you getting on one is pretty remote even with the few EV that are around.
I just wonder how many of these places can actually afford to lose parking space by turning it into charging space. Parking is one of the biggest problem when going anywhere I find, there is never enough.

 

Where I live, Copeland, there is 2 charging points at Tesco and 1 in Morrisons. Of all the local fuel stations, none have an EV charger. There is charging points at the council offices, staff only and the business park, staff only but there is only a couple at each. I don't think there is any charging points at any of the town car parks.

There is more parking spaces in town than there was 20 years ago, yet people still say they don't come into town because parking is an issue, really, what they really mean is they expect to park for free.

For businesses to install these chargers there is a cost, so if I was to have some installed for staff and customers that cost will need to be factored into my pricing. Premier Inn, as mentioned are installing more EV chargers, they actually don't have that many according to zap. Yet Whitbread the owner of Premier Inn announced in January they were to increase room rates with the increase in energy being one of the reasons, yet Travelodge are doing the opposite and are offering more cheaper accommodation.

We need to be getting people out of their cars and back to using public transport, which needs huge investment.

 

I think public transport, locally any way is pretty much dead.
They have just closed the last two park and ride schemes here as the council won't subsidise it any longer.

Covid has put the final nail in those kind of things.

I don't think anyone should expect to get free charging anymore than people should expect free parking but the prices should be fair and not just a means of making profits for carpark companies.

 

Parking is free at hospitals, here in Scotland. Makes it even harder to get a space. I usually park in a local side street and walk the rest.

 

My local park, as in open ground, now charges £2 to park.
For that you get up to six hours, so if you just want to take the dog for its daily walk its exorbitant , if you come from further away and bring the kids on a day out its cheap.
