What's Looking Good in April 2022

The Primroses have done well. I lost a lot in the drought last summer so will split these when they have finished flowering. They still flourish even though the five surrounding pines drain the soil of everything.

 

@Sheal my primroses are also doing well in the shade under the trees. They come and go from year to year, but overall numbers increase. Never had real problems with drought, once flowering is over they get mown down and tend to keep their heads down until mid autumn.

 

Beautiful Michael ... wish I could grow them.

I didn't know you could mow them down @NigelJ. Not that I can there as the tree roots are too prominent. I'm happy to let them do their own thing anyway.

 

@Sheal What I would say about mowing primroses is that some people are sensitive/allergic to the leaves so be careful.
Under the trees the mower is set fairly high to avoid the roots and some bits get skipped altogether because of these.
Certainly hasn't reduced numbers or spreading. At the moment the flowers are popular with bees and other insects as are the Lesser Celandine, in a few weeks it will be daisies all the way.

 

A Lilac cutting I took about 3 years ago, it was only a 6 inch stick then. Pic taken yesterday , I'm really pleased at how well it's doing.

 

Well done Upsy. I love Lilac. Had one in Bucks that was huge. Here is Skwij with it ...

Those little lilacs are lovely Aren't they @Upsydaisy ... I moved mine a few years ago and it has taken a while to recover but it has buds on it this year. I'm pleased your cutting has rooted, it looks quite tall.

I can't remember the name of this flowering bulb. There's only one there but it comes back every year.
Anyone know what it's called ?
