    Hi

I have had mixed success with succulents and wondered if someone could advise.

This planter is in my conservatory and they have started growing again. However the main one looks to be dying or rotting. I lifted it out thinking that the roots may be wet but it is bone dry.

I only water sparingly and around the plant not on it. Its in a conservatory but hasn't been overly warm and as mentioned appeared to be growing from dormancy over winter.

The planter doesn't have drainage holes but isn't wet. I'm not sure what environment they prefer in terms of light etc.

I have a feeling that the two types I can see in the picture are both semperviviums, house leeks, they are hardy and often grown outdoors in the UK.
I think at some point the central one lost its root system, difficult to say why but the usual cause is rot.

All is not lost, take it out and pull off all the dead leaves stripping the back to what should be a solid stem.
Get a pot of gritty cactus type compost and partly bury the stem, if the compost is damp you won't need to water, just lightly spray once a day for a couple of weeks, by which time it should be showing some fine roots.

At that point you can give some water, but make sure you let it dry out, almost, before watering again.

It's always best to use pots with drainage holes.
Full sun to very light shade is best.

Thank you, much appreciated. They were bought in an Aldi I think so not sure what they are.

Should I remove the pups and plant them separately? There were roots there when I lifted it but guess needs some help so I will do what you've suggested.

I did consider putting them out but would definitely need good drainage then!

Ps is it OK to spray the plant directly? Assume so it they can live outdoors.

Yes spraying will encourage it to grow new roots.

I often water all my cacti and succulents over head, its quite natural for that to happen, the trick is to make sure water doesn't hang around, especially in cold conditions.

There were lots of landslides there and the area became dangerous. There isn't much left there now.
