What concerns me is the lack of information on an EV compared to a petrol or diesel car. We hear all this about they are cheaper to run, at the moment and they reduce emissions and will be greener in the future, but.

Apparently an EV will stop comparatively quickly, rather than coasting to a stop like a normal car. car when there is a fault, so getting hit in the rear could be more common.
What is the braking distance of an EV, less or greater.
An EV tends to be heavier, which could protect the driver and passengers more but what about pedestrians when there is an accident?

We are not hearing much about driverless cars these days.
It was all the rage at one point.

I wonder how much an electric driverless car would cost. :yikes:

You would think so. My next-door neighbour took his 7 series BMW to the main dealer for a service. His wife picked it up later in the day and on her way home (10 miles) there was a squealing every time she touched the brakes. When she arrived home my son-in-law was visiting. At that time he was a mobile mechanic with his workshop in his van. She asked him to check it out for her and the pads were right down to the metal and rubbing against and scoring the disc. So much for a £400 service.

Dare I say it, the motor trade is not known for its honesty or thoroughness.
It is however up there amongst solicitors etc. When it comes to pricing.

There should be a list of what is checked at each service interval.

@gks I wish they'd have explained the three shells!

@pete there is a bit of a legal problem with driverless cars. Insurance companies need to attach blame for at fault accidents. Blame the car, the manufacturer or the human who can take control?

I wouldn't want to even be in a self drive car, and would definitely not want to be the one who is expected to be keeping an eye on things and ready to take over if it does something stupid.

Am I the only person in the world who has never been to Taco Bell?

Apparently a new one is being built in the town around here and everyone is waiting in anticipation.
Obviously we have a large Mexican population.

I try never to go to a main dealer (I have used the local privately owned service place for 40+ years) but had to go as the fault on my car was a computer glitch  that can only be sorted on their computer system. They charged £172 per hour to just plug it into the computer and let it do its thing. Two hours of them not doing anything that could have taken more than 10-15 minutes of a person's time. :wallbanging:. To be fair, they only charged 10p for parts! :dunno:

Needless to say, they didn't get a particularly glowing comment on their feedback form.

If energy was free, we would end up using more, the more we use the more we need to generate, vicious circle. China consumes the most energy, but when it comes to energy used per capita they drop down the pecking order, with Iceland being top of the pile.

Considering Iceland is mainly renewable energy is proof that the greener you become the more energy you consume, there will be multiple reasons for this. So for a country with an abundance of renewable energy sourced mainly from hydro and geothermal, then why have they had to turn to oil, an electricity shortage.
