This may sound crazy but a friend had given me a very large bouquet of flowers and some of the stems were alstromeria which seems to have mature seeds.

I'm going to try growing them. I know, I know, cut flowers usually don't give anything other than eye candy and sometimes lovely fragrances but I'm still going to give it a go!

I've given up on getting any cleome to germinate. Three sowings and no showing!

Sounds like a good plan. My one Cleome appeared suddenly a year after I sowed 500 seeds in a pot I then planted something else in. I throw compost that I planted things in that did not germinate into the rockery. So far I have had Trailing Verbena and Honeysuckle sprout ... not that I want this in the rockery but can't get it out! :rolleyespink:

Last year I sowed 9 tomato seeds of a new variety for a seed trial. When the seeds arrived, middle of May 2020, I sowed 3 & got 100% germination. I saved 9 seeds to sow in March 2021. Again all 9 seeds came up & all grew fine & produced fruit.

This year I sowed 14/15 seeds of tomato 'Gardener's Delight' & all appear to have germinated. They took exactly 7 days to germinate without being put in the heated propagator. Other years tomato seeds have germinated in 2-3 days with heat! This is the first year in many I've sown tomato seeds without heat.

Why the flower seeds I sowed outside on the balcony haven't germinated yet is a mystery. But perhaps just after I sowed them we had a couple of weeks with low temps may be the cause of them not growing yet. I'll give them a couple of more weeks & if in that time they don't make a showing I will use the compost for something else.

I sowed Comfey, Calendula, Night Scented Stock and Poppies in shallow planters and left them out in the paved drive area. All of them have germinated and are doing well.

Sowed some Delphinium Pacific Giant and put them on the heat mats and under the lights.

Just as well I thought of giving the seeds I sowed a few weeks ago another few days as I spied a few odd 'Californian Poppy' seedlings popping out of the compost today! :yay:

Thanks for your posts on the tomato seed, the seeds were bought a few days before I'd sown them. Plus they were to be used before March 2023.

I found an email address on the internet , the first I had sown still have not germinated so I think I've given them long enough . I have staged the sowings too with the last ones a few days ago..

The cheaper seeds all germinate d , pricked out and are now 4 inches tall the roots coming through the 3 inch pots . ready for transfering again .

Both the pkts of tomato seed from B&Q was grey in colour in the pkt of mixed plus the yellow pear tomato.

. The ones from the cheap value shop were beige . I've since wondered if the grey ones were old.

They have, I'm sure received my email but as yet not had a reply.

Maybe they are swamped out with complaints .

Sometimes I've had tomato seed germinating 6-8 weeks after sowing.

I've reused the compost after pricking out and had a couple come up in the pots with the other plants I've used it on. Trouble then is trying to work out which variety they are.
