WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Nor am I yet, a bit early in the day , got the laundry on and vacuuming and I'll be out there soon....too lovely a day to miss.

Lots to do in preparation for planting out next month. Still have some mulching to do.

Also want to nab a few pesky weeds that are peeping out between some of our paving, trying to keep on top of things then it's less daunting and much more manageable.

Still a few established plants that are going on the compost as they are past they're best...and I'm fed of them and need a change!

That's the plan anyway!!

I did a bit of seed sowing today. I started some Siberian Wallflower and English Wallflower in propagators then sowed the rest of the English Wallflower in various spots around the garden. We did the same with Borage seeds and I sowed a row of Zinnia seeds in a prepared bed among the shrubs. I have a spoil heap where I put clay soil and other unwanted topsoil (holes dug then filled with compost) so I raked it over and covered it with Comfrey seeds.
I moved my early sown Morning Glory out into the cold frame and strung some more support wires for my Campsis to hang on to. So now it is feet up time and another episode of "Peaky Blinders".

 

Deadheaded the wallflowers that were just about to start producing seed heads.

Repaired a 2mx2m fence panel. Had to chop down the passion flower and last year's sweet peas to access the wood. Quite pleased with my efforts.

 

Tulips - to the right of 'Alfie's Garden'. I planted them in clean soil - but the lesser celandine has filled in the gaps between the bulbs. I think it looks quite good

 

Ouch!!

 

Nothing today it's raining heavily.

 

hello @NigelJ i cleared under our apple and plum trees at the weekend and sprinkled growmore in, I found an old bag of bark with just enough for one tree so used that…my question is whether this is the best mulch to use on fruit trees please? As I am going to have to buy some I’d prefer to use what is best for them, eating in mind we have 2 Labrador dogs who live out all day when we are at work and love eating anything that smells “yuck”!

@Tinkerbelle61 The bark should be fine, don,t put it right up to the trunk. I just use homemade garden compost.

 

Watered my cold frames. Just finished before the rain started and watered the rest of my garden.

 

Raining but that hasn't stopped me from finishing weeding the pathways, just had to don my waterproofs.
Now heading out to do some jobs in the greehhouse.
