    Hello everyone,

Just starting to get on top of my greenhouse jobs. Chilies and Sweet Peppers are now transfered to the hydro system in the greenhouse. Some already have small chilies on them (Hungarian Wax and Giant Capsicum). I have one more chili to repot as it was too small when I did the others (Chilaca). This was because I had to replant due to germination failure.

Tomatoes are now planted and have germinated. They are still small and are in the Grow Tent. They will be transfered to the smaller greenhouse when they are big enough (more later on them).

I thought I would post some pictures to show my progress: -

Where do people stand on topping chillis? Last year I topped a lot of them but I thought they slowed down too much over any sort of benefit.

So this year I am not topping any of them and just let them do their thing. I also noticed just how branched the locoto is compared to something like orange pepperoncini which is just shooting strait up with no branching

While I'm no expert on this, I think you have hit the nail smack bang on the head. In the UK we have a limited growing season for chilis. Anything that slows down the growth can cause a reduction in seasonal growth time. I suppose it wouldn't matter with the faster fruiting types but certainly Superhots might run out of time by the end of the season. Its nice to get a bigger harvest but in the end do we ever use all of our chilis? Do we need massive crops?

If your chilis are off to a very early start then there may be time to top them and maybe they will have time to catch up with a bigger crop.

I don't top them and I nearly always get good crops anyway.

            Regards

              Hello Chili lovers,

Just an update of the chilis and tomatoes....

              20220502_191519.jpg
              1. Smaller chilis

              20220502_191505.jpg
              2. Larger chilis

              20220502_191453.jpg
              3. Medium chilis

They seem to be growing well at the moment. I wish the tomatoes were a little bit more advanced but experience tells me that they will catch up.

              20220502_191326.jpg
              4. Tomatoes (mainly Maskotka)

              20220502_191334.jpg
              5. Dwarf tomatoes of various types. Almost ready to transfer to Wilma system in smaller greenhouse.

Please let us know how your plants are advancing?

              Regards

Chilli's look fine but the toms look a bit yellow, is that down to the camera/lighting?

I wish my greenhouse was that clean:).

                  Pete,

Yes they do look a bit yellow in the photographs but it's due to the growlight that they are under. I remember the chilis looking the same way when I photographed them in grow tent.

The greenhouse was only built last year so it's still fairly clean but I'm sure it won't last!

                  Thanks for the reply.

Excellent scaling strategy, I might add. Here are my Redskins.

The rest could do with a bit of a feed or perhaps I am putting them out when its too cool IMG_20220504_123351941_HDR.jpg IMG_20220504_123325329_HDR.jpg

My chillies look like they need feeding but I need some advice.

What do you feed your plants with and when and how often.

I've been treating mine the same as tomato plants, I wonder if they need more heat though?

The dark colouring in the middle of the leaves worries me, is it a deficiency?

I have some sweet peppers sown a month later than my chillies. The sweet peppers are catching up and look healthier than the chillies on the right:
