    Hi,

500w Halogen is unusual these days if its for home security ? but would think you need at least the 100w Led to get anywhere close.
We use 30w ones around the house /driveway though 50w would be a brighter choice.
The actual light from leds are less than halogen its still usable and is ok with cameras if you use them.

Little difference in the actual light output be it warm white, daylight or cool white, basically yellow white, white and blue white, though think the warm white will be closer in colur to your old halogen bulb.

Be aware that some of the higher wattage leds can be physically very big, so do check their dimensions.
A lot also come prewired but the mains cable is often only about 30cm long, so again do check.

      I had a 300w halogen flood which I replaced with 50w LED.
That is brighter than the 300w was but its a whiter light , looked different at first but you get used to it.
I think you can, for normal use, roughly just knock a nought off the old wattage.

Regarding being pre wired, I noticed the last couple I've bought from screwfix have been, but an earlier one I bought wasn't, I later was sent an update letter from them regarding the unwired one.
Apparently people had been using flat cable as opposed to round cable and the rubber washer was not sealing well when it came to tightening up the fitting, hence they seem to be mostly pre wired now from the DIY places.

Not difficult to just fit an exterior junction box next to the light, though it is another operation.

I replaced a 500w halogen with a 50w LED and the guys are correct as it does not give the same output.

I'd go with a 100w LED if you want to get close.

Do you really need 500W? We used to use 500W on towers for lighting a factory yard. Seems a bit extreme in a domestic situation.

Thank you all :dbgrtmb: great help, just ordered a 50w led so i will try that, i have 2 500w h floods lights and the one that has gone is in a place that doesn't need the same light as the other one so 50w led just be ok then i can see what the light is like and then when it's time to replace the other one i can then go for the 50w or if it's not then go for 100w
Don't need it for cctv cameras has the infereds are so good it's like day light at night :)
we have a big garden and 500w h flood light would light it all up and at the time we had a neibhour from hell so yes we did need the light

Reminds me of when I used to visit my mum whose little house was right out in the country with no street lights. She had a big front lawn and path leading to a wrought iron gate. The damn security light would go off just before you got to the gate and I would collide with it every time!
On a clear night you got a lovely view of the stars though. (with the light off of course). And bats in the summer.
