The military pundits reckon that Putin is looking to replenish his troops by using half trained conscripts. That will work a treat - half trained civilians fighting against battle hardened Ukrainian soldiers who are fighting for their homes. The Russians are also apparently running out of modern weaponry - whilst the Ukrainians are using the latest NATO military hardware. Just need more sanctions to drain the Russian war chest. The cherry on the top of the cake - the Ukrainians have taken back locations in the East - which bring the Russian supply routes into the range of their Howitzers. BOOM.
We shouldn't underestimate Russia with its enormous natural reserves and man power. Also I don't believe our own propaganda about how sanctions are bringing Russia to its knees.
We definitely have our own propaganda machine running full time and have had right from the start. These things are never one sided.
Indeed. It's not black and white by any means. The big difference between us and Russia is we can say these things openly without fear of a midnight knock on the door.
The west might have their sanctions but it's not as crippling as some have you believe. Russia is also simply discounting and opening up new partners. All the sanctions are really doing is cementing a new financial bloc.
And building a new wall, hopefully further east this time. When this settles its looking like another cold war and the arms race will start again.
Putin is a bully - but he is not the biggest kid in the playground. Lesson to be learnt - some countries do not take kindly to being threatened. "Should Finland decide to apply, they would be warmly welcomed into Nato, and the accession process would be smooth and swift," Stoltenberg says. Finland says it is looking to join the alliance "without delay". Stoltenberg adds: "Finland is one of Nato's closest partners, a mature democracy, a member of the European Union, and an important contributor to Euro-Atlantic security."
The little sympathy I may have had for the Russian soldier - being forced and ordered into battle/not knowing what they were fighting for - has just disappeared. Premeditated. When Leonid Pliats and his boss were shot in the back by Russian soldiers, the killing was captured on CCTV cameras in clear and terrible detail. The footage, which was obtained by the BBC, is now being investigated by Ukrainian prosecutors as a suspected war crime. Suspected? - he was unarmed - walking away - behind a fence.
It's time that Ukraine started to shell Russian territory. Use that NATO supplied artillery. Ukraine troops counter-attacking near the north-eastern city of Kharkiv have reached the Russian border, says the regional governor.
The only end that would achieve is bringing NATO directly into the war. We are supplying defensive weapons only. On a slightly different tack, I caught the end of something on the news showing a Ukrainian commentator on the radio covering the Eurovision song contest. Can someone explain why he was sitting in a bare room with plaster falling off the walls.
