Forgot to add that we also add fruit to our salads too. We make a different variation every day. We always have grapes, apples, pears, kiwi, plums blueberries and oranges every week. Fruit is added to our breakfast, then in either the salad or yogurt at lunchtime and we have one whole fruit each at teatime. I do like bananas but they are mainly carbohydrate with very little protein and as they ripen their sugar levels rise rapidly so for this reason we seldom buy them.

When we eat out I often order a Tropical Salad ... bed of lettuce (different types), mixed peppers, carrot, cucumber, tomato, apple, kiwi, orange, pineapple, cheese and sometimes a boiled egg. That is my main and only course. Sometimes I have it with tuna. Then raisins/sultanas and chopped walnut are sprinkled on top. Served with yogurt dressing.

I love bananas and have them raw or in shakes. They are high in potassium and virtually no fruit has protein nor does vegetables.. Bananas do not ripen/overipen in the fridge ... but they are taken out hours before eating. Actually, I keep all fruit and vegetables in the fridge.

        :)
Don't buy lettuce leaves, buy 2 whole lettuce in a bag and most of it will last in the fridge in the bottom salad drawer, just take some of the old leaves off. Don't keep cucumber in the fridge it will go soft, keep it on the counter and leave the wrapper on and it will keep for 2 weeks.
Only buy a about 6 tomatoes, most of the time they will keep for 2 weeks, sometimes they go soft then i'll use them in a casserole on Thursday. Beetroot keeps very well in the salad drawer and the carrots most of the time. I put cheese in the door compartment wrapped in cling film, it keeps very well. I don't put any other veg in there, the cabbage and onions are fresh but the peas and sprouts are frozen.
Potatoes are kept in large paper bags upstairs, but this time of year they like to start growing and they can turn green, so I don't buy a lot at once.:)

No nor do we, I prefer to buy my fruit and veg weekly. I do think organically grown without all the added preservatives..even waxings don't hang around as long as the more commercially grown .

Ps...stand your cucumber upright in the fridge door...never had one go soft yet.:blue thumb:

We're like you Vicky all safely tucked away in the fridge :dbgrtmb:. Having all our doors and windows open all Spring and Summer I much prefer it....hate the pesky fruit flies! My brother (and older sister )had it bad with them, he forgets to store things in the fridge and sis ( understandably) likes her grandsons to see fruit and help themselves to it.:)

Had a friend over this morning and had a lovely catch up. She's a very keen gardener too so we sat outside with loads to talk about.

Oh, I like those kind of get togethers @Upsydaisy ! I have friends who like gardening, others who sew, bakers, diyers and some who like to go sight seeing. We can talk about our common passions and usually it is exciting and I always learn something new :)

I'm about to go out and start cleaning out the van. I'll be driving 5 of my friends to a country store/lunch place/garden center next week and I want to make sure the vehicle is welcoming. It's too chilly to do anything in the garden so this will fill a bit of time. As I procrastinate from sewing a new top. It is a tricky pattern and I keep putting off making it because I worry that it will not come out nicely!

You are getting your walking in there Upsy! [IMG]

Builders have come and gone, boss plus one. Did quite a bit then T'other Half said about changes to windows being replaced so now they need more metal supports ... not available till Thursday! Still think they will have the roof on Friday but not the windows orchard side as window man has to come to measure. They are wooden frames and we have termites! :hate-shocked:

Thanks for the tip @Upsydaisy and hope that you had a good time with your friend.

@Victoria that's a shame about your windows, hope that you get them replaced soon.

The only fruit I put in the fridge is blueberries, grapes, strawberries and cherries.
Should never put bananas in the fridge.
The peaches, nectarines, plums, kiwi fruit, apples, bananas, Cape gooseberries and grapefruit in the cupboard.
In the fridge are tinned pineapple, tinned apricots and tinned pears in fruit juice and frozen raspberries.

For lunch today I had a double steak burger topped with crispy bacon and melted cheese - served with deep fried chips and a nice cup of tea.

Thoroughly enjoyed it - don't feel guilty - but then this is my one meal for the day. If you believe that a man needs 2000 calories each day to maintain his weight - then that's equivalent to a massive single meal.

While I'm here - noticed that Morrisons have a new range of t-shirts in - a fiver each - I have to say that they are far better quality than the M&S t-shirts. So if you're in the market....

Doesn't matter really as there is no roof. :heehee:

How different we are ... and rightly should be. I have eight years on you and have always put my fruit and veg in the fridge, even before I came here 21 years ago. My tinned fruit lives in the pantry until needed and may be chilled before eating.
