Your Day (apart from gardening) - what took place?

I had a dentist appointment this morning just over 2years since my last!!! Kept making appointments but they were constantly cancelled.

Please to say after a couple of X-rays and a check on teeth, mouth ,jaw and neck all was reported as absolutely fine. Phew.

MOT going well..

Eyes tested...new specs ✓
Knee.....hmm...surgery carried out ,slightly better, early days still . ✓
Teeth and oral cancer check.✓

 

Visiting some friends today who we haven't seen since the start of the pandemic....can't wait to see them!

Even during the madness of the pandemic they still went on their travels around the world ,where and whenever it was possible.

Unfortunately they didn't escape the virus and caught it while abroad last November and were quite poorly , it's only now they are feeling back to normal health.

We've kept in contact but it will be sooooo good th see them both in person again.

 

Today - I hugged my niece so hard - I've hurt my ribs. Well worth it .

 

I expect she's in A&E now getting her ribs strapped up then.

 

I'm only just getting back to normal now - 10 days since the last hug. New hug coming this Sunday - so I'll be a little more careful this time .

Ribs take ages to recover don't they?

 

We had a new kitchen fitted last December and I did all the painting. However, my other half decided she would like the end walls (galley kitchen) painted copper! Well my bad luck, you can get metallic copper emulsion. What a nightmare. One coat didn't cover, and the second coat shows every brush stroke, even after painting in one direction only. Tomorrow I am going to try a third coat using a roller and if that doesn't work we will just have to live with it. Luckily I originally decided to complete one wall before I started the other (I have experienced metallic paint when touching in car bodywork). Just as well the weather is poor.

 

Today, both the cats were off to the vet for 09:00. Lily to have her booster, worming and her claws trimmed. Toby for worming and claws trimmed. What a hassle trying to catch them. As soon as you start shutting doors Lily knows something is up. Eventually, we got Toby cornered in our bedroom but actually catching him was a different matter. Two decrepit OAPs chasing a young fit cat is a sight to behold. Finally, I got him into his box.
By this time we had lost Lily, eventually finding her in her small house on the climbing tree. Now a cat will go through a four-inch hole when it wants to but getting it out when it doesn't is another matter. She just dug her claws into the felt floor and walls and that was that. Prizing her out was another matter, especially as the clock was counting down to appointment time.
We got them to the vet's in time but my wife and I were like rung out dishcloths by then. It was straight home and a coffee and a bun.

 

Ah, bless them. I empathise with you both.

 

Builders arrived and took down my leaky cold cobwebby mossy conservatory
It will be replaced by an extension to the dark poky kitchen, making it light and 'un-poky' (new word )

 

Finally started on the rainwater disposal system. New guttering on old down-pipes. Heavy duty deep flow fitted to the rear of the bungalow, this will stop us waking when rain occurs, deeper gutter will aid flow removal and fill my butts up quicker.

 

Up early to start on the golf course. A tad warm yesterday so an early start today then a BBQ at work to finish off the day.

 

We're going to try doing the laundry in cold water - to try and save a few quid on the electric. A bit of light googling tells me that there will be no difference to the wash if cold water is used - in fact cold water is better if you use biological detergents.

First load this afternoon - let's see how it goes.

Has anyone tried cold water washing - did it work for you?

 

My washing machine only goes down to 20 degrees, I've tried that and it works.

 

I've just had a look at the dials - on our Beko - it's cold or 30c or more. It will take a couple of weeks washing - but I'll report back on the results of cold washing .

We do laundry on a daily basis - so fingers crossed - we might be able to save a shed load of cash .
