Update on our robins nest in the garden room. At last I’ve been able to look at the little robins nest when mum was away. There are only two chicks, now fully clothed and looking almost ready to fly, and two eggs not hatched in there. So out of the five eggs only two viable. Well at least the two chicks look strong. The mother robin has been takIng the wax worms on a daily basis. Will expect to be back in there by the weekend. V

@Spruce, they have been late arriving, so late building/repairing nests but should be doing it by now. The constant decline means that less are returning to our shores.:frown:

I think I've identified all the different hoverfly species which visited my garden last year except this one on my Eupatorium cannabinum, any ideas, please? I can't find it on webpages of common species and both the head and body seem so atypical compared to what I'm familiar with! Apologies for the poor photo.

Thanks Spruce, it does a bit, doesn't it? But I don't think it is! I'm looking through photographic databases of flies in general now, this seems to be the closest to the body, but still not quite right. It's the head that I'm struggling to match the most, was almost sort of cartoonish on the one I photographed. :dunno:

@Nikolaos it could be Tachina Fera - possibly Elmarit?

Thanks @Sheal! Someone on another gardening forum said the same thing, I don't know enough to be certain that the species is right but I definitely agree that it's a tachinid! :blue thumb:
