If you can resist the temptation to buy more if you need them, next year you would probably be able to split the ones you will already have and fill gaps with those. With a spacing of 1ft I don't think it will be necessary though.

It's a busy time of year for nurseries and can take a few weeks for plants to be delivered. If your plants arrive tomorrow that will be good.

Dividing the Plants next Year is a good idea, I am just unsure how to go about it having never done it before.

As you say though I may not need to.

Regarding the Spiraea, I received an email today to let me know that they have been Dispatched for Next Day Delivery so technically I should receive them tomorrow, realistically I shall see.

If you decide to split the plants next year, tag/mention me here on your thread and I will tell you how to do it, it's very easy.

Fingers crossed for the arrival of your plants tomorrow. I hope they arrive in good condition.

 

@Kevin Cowans I have used wooden shish kebob skewers to mark out planned locations. They're cheap and are easy to push into the ground.

Well, the Spiraea were Delivered just after 09:00 this Morning.

I have now Buried, sorry, Planted them in their spots.

They look healthy and have new growth so hopefully that shall continue.

As promised, here is the Photo as of now:



They are a bit small at the moment, they are there, really, that will change when Spring gets going though.

I had my Tape Measure with me

The Spiraea on the Left is 750mm from the Fence, 750mm from the Ceanothus and 750mm from the Heuchera.

The Spiraea on the right is 750mm from the Fence and 750mm from the Japanese Anenome.

The gap between the two Spiraea is approximately 1200mm which will allow them to grow into each other slightly when they fully mature.

Now, I just need to wait until the Berberis is In Stock for the other two sites.

I actually used some metal Hose Stakes which I use to secure the Drip Irrigation Hose in place, worked well.

I am looking forward to seeing how it all grows this Year which will be its Third.

You probably know the old saying:

The First Year they Sleep
The Second Year they Creep
The Third Year they Leap

Thank you for the photo/picture/image. I can never decide what to call it, but being digital I suppose it should be called an image.

I'm glad you didn't bury the plants. Yes, they are small at the moment but once the roots get a grip on the soil they will start to grow. Perfect spacing too.

I watered them in when they were planted and from Tomorrow Morning, the Drip Irrigation will take over.

I wonder what the Neighbours would of thought if they saw me measuring the spacing with a Tape Measure

Hi Kevin , I do grow Geranium rozanne it is a great plant but one plant every foot is far to many it a big plant even after a couple of years, they have a scrambling habit they tend to swap and climb on anything to near them . If you want a geranium with a more mould shape and blue flowers Orion is the one to go for . If you still want rozanne I'd plant at the very least 45cm between plants.

I shall look at Geranium 'Orion' and if I still decide on Geranium 'Rozanne' I shall heed your advice and plant at 45cm intervals rather than 30cm.

Hi Kevin, only just catching up on these posts so by now your plants will have found their feet.. and at a guess would say they are getting established and looking good.
Next year you will see such a diffferance ,don't forget these shrubs are deciduous.

 

Hello all

Well, the work on the Patio, Paving and Setts started today after a long wait, the Patio etc. was originally laid in March 2020.

After the Slabs were lifted, the nightmare got worse, the original people, I really do not want to refer to them as Landscapers, had not used compacted MOT 1 for the Sub Base, instead they seem to have used some kind of pebble mix.

There were also cavities under the Slabs in the Sub Base which had Ants etc. present.

The old Sub Base has been removed and a new MOT 1 Sub Base has been laid and compacted.

These are Photos of Day 1:















Everything has been prepared to the correct Levels etc.

I am also going to possibly get the Lawn taken up, levelled and re-turfed as part of the Job since it will make getting everything level much easier.

I am just waiting on the Quote for the additional work.

Thanks, the Landscapers have just arrived and the first Job is to remove both the Front and Back Lawns using a Lawn Cutter.

I have been spending money hand over fist on both Lawns over the Years with little success so I have decided to get them both re-done at the same time as the Patio, Paving and Setts.

I am also getting a section of the Concrete Slab Pathway inside the Side Gate removed and the same Slabs laid, so, when you enter the Gate into the Back Garden everything is the same Stone.
