Hummingbird moth.

Had a visit from a hummingbird moth today, well chuffed, just didn't quite get enough time to get setup to get a quality video but got a quick bit. It was on the red valerian this time.

 

Nice....only ever seen one and that was on Cemlyn Bay Beach, lovely little thing.

 

Not sure if this will work.
It was that quick I had to slow the video down.

 

I've only seen one once also and that was a few years ago, I'm not sure if they are more prevalent in certain parts of the country.

 

Just the second for me.

 

This has to be the most amazing coincidence, just doing some watering on the allotment where I have a patch of sweet William and Valerian and guess what.

Got these with my phone.

 

Wonder if they are just moving north now following the warmer weather.

 

@pete awesome, we could be responsible for a surge in red valerian sales I remember reading an article about 5 years ago saying they may start to overwinter here in a few years time.

 

Red Valerian, you mean that they actually sell this stuff.
