Unhappy Dahlias - To Put It Mildly

    To put it mildly :sad:

    Any ideas on what's bugging them? They're newly planted. We were given a few boxes of them. Most of them that have been planted out are going like this but the ones still in boxes are OK. They are all about the same size of the one that hasn't been denuded.

    Not sure but could be just settling in. I'd be inclined to choo most if the foliage down and give a good water. Are they being chomped by slugs at all?

    @shiney - as a grower of a lot of dahlias, my guess is dahlia smut, a virus or leafy gall.

    Were they large tubers? There are a lot of spindly stems which could be suggestive of leafy gall.

    It doesn’t explain why those in the boxes still look ok though and the ones planted out are failing to thrive. I would be tempted to dig one up and have a look.

          Yes, they were fairly large. We were given six boxes of them by a friend who grows a whole allotment of them and they had just been dug out.
