WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Watered all of the blueberries in pots and the wallflower seedlings.
Noticed that the loganberry plant has decided to sucker all over the garden.

 

Moved potted up dahlias round to front of house, moved other dahlias and some half hardy annuals out of greenhouse. Repotted and then watered a few things left over from last year.Turned compost heap and then cut grass at back of house. Finally watered everything that didn't move out of the way quickly enough.

 

Planted out sweetcorn, winter squash, tomatoes and a bell pepper.

 

@Logan I've thought of using redcurrants in muffins but I've not tasted them before. What kind of flavour do they have please?

 

Fool that I am and trying to keep up with a schedule at the moment, I mowed the back lawn in a strong wind. That gave my ticker a good workout.

 

I freeze my redcurrants and then have a handful with the muesli.
They are tarter than Blackcurrants.
Weed and then get the shredder out and reduce the piles of prunings.

 

I potted up a Westringia shrub from a bucket I had it in. I detached a pink Brugmansia from a mass of Tradescantia 'Blushing Bride' and potted each up separately. I am sure the Tradescantia will grow back around the Brugmansia as I couldn't get all the roots out but that's okay as it looked pretty.

 

Depressing morning; badgers have had half a row of carrots, most of the parsnips have been eaten/not germinated. Snails have had two thirds of a row climbing beans, half a row of peas and completely stripped the growth from two clematis that were looking on the verge of flowering three weeks ago.
Oh well lose some and not win some.

 

Oh Nigel, how disheartening !!! If it were me I'd be crying my eyes out, I know that nothing would change things even if I did and that your reaction is much more appropriate but nevertheless I'm so sorry for you. x

 

Spent the morning weeding and attempting to regain a little bit of order to the borders by the greenhouse . It's usually allowed to do its own thing with occasional light tidy ups and trimming back of overgrown plants. When the sun's out it's way too hot to work the area but with light cloud today I grabbed at the chance.

Spent a couple of hours potting on young perennials in my utility room. The wind is too strong again to work outside.

 

I've been emptying the barrels and the large pots today of spring bulbs, Not much else that took a while. After coming back from holiday the garden changed quite a bit most of the alliums have faded or started to , the garden just seems a bit out of place how it would of been if I were here, had mum round to water things but forgot to mention the second plant stash so they were looking rather sad. Planning now what to put in the pots and where to plant the many dahlias also a venture to the garden centers tomorrow .

 

They're bracingly tart with a flavour of a sweet cranberry, they will need sugar but it all depends on if you like sweet tooth or not. They might be alright in muffins, i use them in mixed fruit summer puddings and a mixed fruit compote, but with some sugar.

 

Not a lot really, will amble up to the greenhouse later and give words of encouragement to the tomatoes, repot the peppers, sow some more french and runner beans and then water as requred.
