Looking at my Alicante I'm beginning to wonder if they are just that, do you think they look more like Sungold?

It won't be surprising if they are as I don't think any of the name tags were correct.

No, it doesn't look like 'Alicante' at all! The tomatoes on 'Alicante' are a deep, dark red. I grew a lot of this variety on the allotment I had some years ago. As I've never grown 'Sungold' only heard of it, I can't help with its id.

The do look like Sungold which are always the first to ripen for me. They are quite a small fruit, it's difficult to tell the scale on your photo.

Here you go, John...this one might be a little big for Sungold.

These are what I grew last year, Sungold is the same size as a 50p and the few I've eaten this year are slightly smaller. Yours probably isn't Sungold then @Sheps, it will be interesting to find out what it tastes like.

Do you think it has finished ripening @Sheps ? It looks orange to me but maybe it will turn red.

@JWK They are very orange in colour and I'd say no to them being fully ripe, they were partially green 3 days ago.

Let's see if they turn red.

Enter the Frankentom, this monster formed from the very first flower on the plant, the flower was huge and I believe they call it a Megabloom, it looks like 3 toms fused together.

Just out of curiosity, the remains of the flower is still sitting between the 3 fruits, so is it going to be eatable.

They are edible if you cut them up and take out the manky bits.
I'm growing a beef steak type and am removing the first flower on the truss if it looks like it's one of these.

Agreed. It'll be fine, just with a few tough "core" bits. I tend to leave them on unless they're extreme. It's all down to whether you find them charming. IMG_20220619_110602.jpg

It's another Bloody Butcher. BB is quite prone to moderate megablooms. Quite often they lack seeds, which I find interesting. #nerd

Now that I have changed my feeding method, by just using plain water in the Quadgrows and feeding the pots directly I'm now wondering how much feed to give each plant?

With the plants getting all their water needs from the Quadgrow I'm giving each plant 500ml of feed every 7 days.

                                I'm using Maxicrop

and the pots are 11L in size
