The butchers in Morrisons this morning.

Me - "Do you have any rump or topside?"
Butcher - "Yes Sir - it's over there in the pre packed chiller section."

    This is fine, but:

    - the butcher is only guessing how thick I would like the steak;
    - the butcher is only guessing how large the steak should be:
    - it's a waste of packaging.

Normally - nip to the butchers - look at the piece of beef - ask the butcher to cut the piece(s) that I want - take off the fat - put same meats into a single plastic bag - with one price tag on it.

Supermarkets need to stop guessing what their customers want.

    While I'm at it:

    - the popular clothes sizes were all gone - only small or medium were left;
    - clothes labelled as small, medium, large - what does that mean - in real life cm's.

That's funny but how so true. Doctors at the Hospital do probably deserve more money, so do the nurses.

IMO GP's should take a pay cut as they are not doing the work they are paid for using Covid as an excuse is shocking.

Small and medium are popular with me, large is for tee shirts.
All too often I can only find L, XL and XXl.

There is one thing with this high inflation business - my annual pension increase is the CPI at September each year - so we should get a chunky increase next year. Ideally CPI peaks in September and then immediately falls like a rock just after...

My car insurance is due next month and Confused.com sent me a list of quotes, the lowest being from the AA. I fancied trying NFU Mutual and I also checked Saga. Both were more than twice what the AA was quoting for the same cover. I still have to see what my current insurer is after when my renewal comes in. When it does I will phone them and tell them what the AA is quoting and if they can quote near that I will stay where I am. No point in swapping for a couple of pounds saving.

                  Watching Wimbledon.
Really get fed up with the clenched fist at every point they win.

Cant they just accept they won the point without keep doing this.

I'd also chuck out all those noisy ones that cant hit the ball without making a stupid noise every time.

Other than that its quite enjoyable.

@Jocko I usually phone round a lot of insurers to try and do a deal with them and tend to get a good price. This last time I didn't think much of the quotes with the NFU being more than £200 higher than any other. So I tried Confused.com (first time I had tried this sort of company) and got one very good quote:-
£235.94, fully comp., NCD protected, courtesy car. (all the additions apart from breakdown) for a Volvo S90.

This was with Flow and had never heard of them. So I checked and found they are the online version of LV (used to be Liverpool Victoria). I went with them and Confused.com offered us a bonus for booking through them - a free car wash per month for 12 months (worth £6.30 a time).

NFU quoted me over £1000, I usually pay around £350.:roflol:
Needless to say I didn't take it.

                    'tis the modern way :noidea:

Have just watched John Isner play Murray and didn't get too much enjoyment from it purely because he just smashes ace after ace. There's no grace or matchplay possible. Just a huge (he's 6'10"!!) powerhouse. Have to say Isner does seem a nice chap though, very humble in his little after match interview

                      Well my moan is..
I 'm currently in the middle of reading a gripping thriller series and each book in the series is based on a day in the week. So having read the Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday ones ( all are e-books from the library) I've just discovered that my library doesn't hold the Thursday or Saturday books. So now all I have left is Friday and Sunday and a lot of guessing to do !! Grrr:wallbanging:

@Upsydaisy that reminds me of the Rabbi Small series. I only have 5 days of the week and the only ones in ebook form now are ones I've already got in softcover!

And my moan about books is that I have the Kindle (Amazon) and a Kobo (Rakuten). I bought the Kobo because my library switched to the Rakuten platform and their Cloud Library is the most unreliable piece of trash I've ever come across. And that says a lot- because I started with a Vic20 and my first PC used Rainbow before they came up with Excel!

You download a book, put the book on your night table and later when you are snuggled in bed ready to read it, it disappears :mute:

This storm in a teacup about Halifax made me laugh - at first.

Apparently they have issued name badges with the 'modern' pronouns to their staff although they say they don't have to wear them.

Some people have been saying, on Social Media, that they are unnecessary or they object to them and Halifax have stupidly said if they don't like it they can withdraw their accounts - which, apparently, lots of them have started doing. A good way to lose customers, and a friend of mine who works at the H.O. of another bank has said they have already had a few dozen new customers because of it.

I still can't quite get my head around why people would find it necessary to have the pronoun/s on their badge or letter signature (I've received a number of emails with it on). I don't particularly care what gender (old fashioned or modern style) they are as long as they deal with the matter I wish them to do.

Actually, now I think about it, I feel a bit offended that they think I may feel differently about them if they don't use the pronoun.

I have always felt strongly that all people are equal (not the Animal Farm type of equal) and never distinguish between gender, colour, race or religion (or any other criteria). It was an ethos that I emphasised strongly to all my staff and it certainly worked with regard to retaining customers and promoting a good atmosphere.

Over 30 years ago the local authority Equal Opportunities Officer asked to see our Equal Opportunities Statement as we didn't appear to have it displayed. I told her/she/it  that I was offended that they thought I needed to display such a statement and asked whether they had ever had a complaint about us. When she said 'No' I asked her to leave. As it happened, I had a meeting the next day with the CEO of the council and told him what I thought of the way she approached the topic. They changed their policy on approaching businesses! :heehee:

This followed on from the previous fortnight when the same department criticised me for not having a ramp for wheelchair access to our property (the door had a lip of 1.5") and I pointed out to them that their own authority (planning dept.) had refused to allow me put a small ramp there because of safety conditions.

Bureaucracy gets me a tad annoyed! :roflol:
