Covid tests

Hi all.

So my wife has covid. Thankfully she's doing ok. One of my kids has covid. In both cases confirmed by a clear second red line on the test.

Back end of last week I started feeling slightly unwell. Not enough to stop me doing anything. I thought it was a touch of hay fever. However today I feel quite rough. No energy, aches and pains everywhere, bouts of bad coughing, and a splitting headache.

Given that I have the symptoms, and two members of my household definitely have it, ordinarily I'd say it's a safe bet that I have it. Except my test was negative.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

 

My daughter had the same symptoms for 1 1/2 weeks but only showed positive on a covid test halfway through that time.

In the hors since starting this thread, I've been increasingly falling asleep, getting confused, freaking the wife outby apparently arguing out loud and coherently about some engineering disagreement. This despite in waking life I'm not even an engineer, and now it takes actual physical effort to stand up, oh and I've gone dizzy and fallen over twice this evening.

I think it's fair to say it's not hay fever.

Agree with John , you need a proper diagnosis @Clueless 1 v2 . Hope you get over the worse soon and start to feel better.

 

Thanks for the concern folks, but I'll be fine. I'm fully vaccinated and I had covid right at the start, so my immune system should be well prepared.

I was just puzzled that the test was negative despite all the symptoms, the fact that two other members of the household had tested positive.

 

I have another underlying condition. It got investigated right up to top consultant level. It is thankfully largely harmless but if any part of my body chemistry is out of kilter, it can mess with my balance a bit. It's not vertigo but from what I gather from the symptoms of the latter, it's much the same end result. As for falling, luckily because I've trained in martial arts most of my life, I'm well versed in falling safely. The trick is as soon as I feel myself going, I just let my legs and back relax and protect my head. I tend to go down like a sack of spuds. The bigger danger is if you make a futile attempt to regain your balance, because then your legs and tense and you might topple rather than going straight down. It doesn't happen often, and when it does I've never hurt myself.

 

I think i get something the same, usally if i'm working hard in hot or very cold weather i get to a point i faint but now i feel something just before a faint and i will sit down before i fall down, i ussaly feel faint and energy just goes and i then just straight down on the floor

Clueless, do you get a funny light/star's in your eye's just before it happen's ??

 

Unfortunately I get no warning at all. Although over the years I have learned to recognise the triggers so in most cases I can take steps to stop it. Just not always.

My quirk might be different to yours, so it's worth getting checked if you're worried.

 

I bought my own, cant stand queues.
Thing is you blood pressure fluctuates all day, especially if you are on medication, so just one test really proves nothing.
I turned up at A@E and it was 179 over 100.
Tested it at home and it 135 over 80.
Your blood pressure drops when you are peeing.
Not a lot of people know that.

 

There's also what I think is called white coat syndrome, or something like that. It's the notion that when you're in the doctors or hospital, and someone is about to tell you just how done in you are, the anticipation of being politely told all the reasons you're not looking after yourself properly triggers the stress response, and your blood pressure goes through the roof.
