Hayter 48 Rear Roller Issue.

I’m looking for some advice in my Hayter 48. When pressing the handle at the back of the mower it doesn’t appear to do anything. I assume it’s the brake? I’ve had a look underneath and the cable mechanism seems fine. The cable on top is a little frayed but I’ve taped it with some electrical tape to prevent any further damage.

It’s only happened recently and I’m just wondering what parts I need to replace?

 

It’s a 496F the front lever is the engine cut out.

 

Is the problem with the rear roller or the rear lever.
Not something I've used but you appear to be talking about two different things between you.

If you have used it before surely you know what levers do what

 

So when the clutch lever is released the rear roller should rotate.
Had one years ago and it was belt driven.

 

Then the first thing I would do is check the integrity of the belt.

 

But mine wasn't a Hayter and I dont know how their clutch works on those.

 

When you said you had one years ago I thought you meant that model. Sorry.

 

I will see how easy it is to check the belt. I’ve not long had it and it’s my first Petrol mower so I’m not familiar with what does what. The top lever is the dead man’s hand.

It also has a variable speed lever that used to work but doesn’t now. It was bought second hand.

 

Sorry didn't mean to be misleading, mine was a different make but was just wondering if this would have a similar clutch arrangement.
