It's basically down to the opposition not letting things drop @CanadianLori
Instead of tackling him on issues that really matter they have a personal vendetta going to get Boris out.
Presumably because then they can state that his replacement has never been elected so we need a general election.

And if Boris is ousted his replacement won't be any better and will go through the same hassle for removal. Why bother?

Just to clear up a point about voting for Prime Ministers:- our constitutional voting laws doesn't state anywhere that we, the people, vote for a Prime Minister. We only vote for our local candidate (MP). The party (or parties if it's a coalition) with the most MPs then appoint their own leader who will become PM. Although, we know in advance who each party is likely to elect as their leader we are not voting for a particular person as Prime Minister. So the party can put in who they want and it doesn't need an election. So there is no legal basis to claiming that a Boris replacement is not a true PM. :dunno:

In theory, in practice is totally different.
Most people actually vote for a party rather than their actually candidate .

If all MPs were independent then the theory might work but as soon as they all become part of a party, to which they have to be loyal, the whole system went out the window.

I've always voted for who I think would be the best candidate. :noidea: We have only had four MP's in the last 48 years, two Labour and two Conservative, and I've voted for three of them - and known all four personally. Those three worked well for the Constituency but the other one didn't do well and, in my opinion, wasn't any good (I'm being polite) and became an MEP - to the cheers of a lot of the local electorate :heehee:

Our current MP has resigned from the cabinet. (48 gone so far - and counting) I saw him last week and he wasn't a 'happy bunny', whereas he is usually quite cheerful.

There are good MPs out there but they need the guts to stand up to their bosses. The three I have voted for have always done so with one of them losing a more senior position in the party for doing it.

The MP in the next Constituency (the boundary runs through the front 3ft of our garden :rolleyespink:) was very popular and was the MP from 1977 until 2017 when he retired with ill health. He also did a good job for his Constituency and had a massive majority (no innuendos please :heehee:).

I'm sure many on this forum will not agree, but IMO Boris has done a good job, getting the UK through Brexit and Covid.

Yes he's made mistakes and told a few porkies, but ha, we all do.

That's one opinion of course; Brexit was voted for by the British people who believed what they were told about billions of pounds becoming available for the NHS etc. So a democratic decision can't argue with that. The implementation has been a total disaster, just look at Northern Ireland; many small companies have stopped exporting to the EU \and many small EU companies no longer export to the UK. Shortages of labour in a number of industries especially agricultural. The UK is struggling to remain part of the European scientific community.
As for Covid Boris was lucky in that the scientists in a number of countries were working on new vaccine types for decades prior to Covid and so these could be fast tracked, the Recovery drug trial was set up practically without government input. Yes the Chancellor pumped money into the economy to support businesses, this has to be paid back (tax rises). Meanwhile Bori's government was handing out contracts left right and centre to their friends and drinking mates.
Boris didn't just tell a few porkies; he has lied from start to finish and broken the laws that he forced on everybody else.
The Ukrainian people elected a clown and got a leader, the British elected a leader and got a clown.

I think I said when he got the job I didn't like him,I still don't.
He got Brexit kind of done, he gets it in the neck from the opposition for spending so much money on covid, but I doubt captain hindsight would have done any better..
I can't see who can take over from him and forsee a big call for a general election by autumn from the other sides.
It's a total mess and Boris has squandered his position by being the complete idiot that he has always been.
Go, and go now, as one of is party members said a long time ago.

He's now trying to resign as party leader but hang on as PM.
I think i need to add arrogant to the list of his major attributes.

This'll probably get me banned, or shot or something, but I just hope they're English (back to 15 generations). Much as I like Indians, I can't see it being a forward step for the UK to be governed by one, much less an Iraqi!
