I thought I'd add a few photos to this thread I started a while back, and because it was a lovely day yesterday (too hot for the garden) I went for a spin up the mountain behind this village, to where there's a wind farm.

I took a few views as well
first looking out over the little town near my village ...

Next looking south towards the Bristol Channel, and you can faintly make out the English coastline in the distance (it's the north coast of Devon) ...

    Some more views ...

Lovely Michael. Reminds me of when we go up in the hills here. So peaceful, no people. Thanks for sharing as it is too hot to go into the hills here ... they are expecting it in the 40s!

Thanks @Victoria, unfortunately though there are some idiots who throw litter about and also use the roads like racing tracks. They spoil it for real people.
It's nice apart from that

Or the Dog walkers who put their Dog poo in a bag and then chuck on the pavement or hang it on someone's fence.

          What is that about?

They do that here too but there are no bins for them to put it in ... however that is no excuse.

I watched a bloke some time ago walking down the street drinking from a can.
He finished the drink and carefully placed the can on someone's front wall, but it fell off so he picked it up a replaced it on the wall and then walked off.

I suspect somewhere in his tiny mind he assumed by placing it there it wasn't littering, but you have to wonder about if these people are safe to be out on their own.

@Michael Hewett ,..lovely landscape images,..the windmills give that space station appearance,..yes litter louts are here as well :catapult:.

Local authority place bins everywhere,..even with a dog and bag to entice people to bag and drop dog poo,..doesn't ring a bell for some folk.

I went to see my dentist a few days ago, in a little town near here, and I was very early so I went for a walk to use up some time.
My walk took me through the churchyard, where some of my early ancestors are laid to rest (but there are no memorial stones for them, I've searched but not found any)
It was a dull day but here are some photos

The busy road into the town crosses an old bridge and then goes up a steep hill ...

Then it was back to the dental practice for my appointment, where I'm glad to say I didn't need any treatment :blue thumb:

What a stunning place and it looks so peaceful too.

Do you know the age of the church?...I love walking around them, you learn so much history from them don't you. :)

Glad that you didn't need and treatment at the Dentist :dbgrtmb:.

What a lovely charming village but it is a shame when roads cut through them. Thanks for sharing that wander and pleased all was well with your teeth.

@Upsydaisy the present church building dates from the mid 1800s I believe but the actual site is ancient, and probably taken over by early Christians from an even earlier Celtic place of worship.

@Victoria the main route through the town carries a very busy trunk road linking north and south Wales. It is used by big articulated lorries and lots of through traffic causing holdups, but there are plans for a bypass which will be built soon.
When I took the photo of the houses on the hill I waited a long time for a lull in the traffic.

Since we're having some very springlike weather these days, and I can't do anything in the garden until the windows have been put in my greenhouse, I took a drive today to a lovely country park set in the beautiful Valley of the River Tawe in the Brecon Beacons ... just over a half hour drive from here.
First of all I walked around the lake ...

Then along some of the paths that meander through the 40 acre grounds ...

The park is called 'Craig y Nos' (Rock of the Night) and comprises the former grounds of a Victorian 'castle', which belonged to Madam Adelina Patti, an Italian soprano opera singer, who bought it and came to live there, in the 19th century.

It is now owned and managed by the Brecon Beacons National Park authority.

The days are short and the sun low in the sky so there were lots of shadows and shady spots, yet there were many people walking around and making the most of the warm weather
