There are 20 mph zones around here but when it all goes to 20 mph it will be different.
They need to put speed limits on other roads that are dangerous like the narrow mountain roads here. I nearly got driven into the gutter the other day by an overtaking speeding van.

The Welsh speed limit thing is not,as some of the headlines suggest, a blanket 20mph limit across the whole of Wales. It is built up areas that previously had a 30 mph limit.

Well yes it says that in the link that Michael put up at the beginning.
But if 30 goes to 20 where does that leave 40s and so on.
Its just meddling for meddling sake by some jobs worth.

      I suspect it leaves 40 at 40.

So you suddenly go from 40 to 20.
That rarely happens around here, but the speed gun will be waiting behind the sign.

But by the same logic, what happens when you leave a dual carriageway? You might be expected to go straight from a 70 limit to a 30 limit. Folks seem to manage it.

Well slip roads invariably lead to a roundabout, so its be prepared to actually stop.

We could go on but its just another nail in getting from A to B under your own steam, keep the car but dont use it.

I don't think it's that. In the relatively few years I've been driving (about 25) I've seen quite a few changes. None of them have led to the end of car ownership.

If I may be so bold, I think the root of the problem here is a simple aspect of human nature, that is fear of change. One change doesn't necessarily indicate the start of a cascade of changes.

Apparently the reasoning is: currently if you want a 20 mph zone the council have to raise a traffic order, if they make everywhere in built up areas a blanket 20 mph zone then they have to issue a traffic order for 30 and 40 mph zones.

They will have to change some laws as well

Bicycle's will have to leave 1.5 meter gap when overtaking car's or a leg width

driving fast doesn't get you there any qiucker, driving steady and reading the road ahead can be just as quick

driving lorry's must of my life

2 of us had to deliver loads to the same place about 150miles away, me steady other driver throtle and brake, soon as we left the yard other driver was gone for dust, me just drove steady, well when i turned up at the delivery place i asked the man on the gate how long the other driver as been here, he replyed just about 5 minutes, we then got loads home but from different places, but i looked at how much fuel he put in his lorry, 320miles he used 138 litre's more than me, both lorry's was same age/make and the same trailars

Brake pad's he wore out in a year, mine lasted just over 4 years

There's already a guideline for that. Basically leave the width of an open car door. Riders that want to live treat that rule like a religion. Sadly too many ignore it, at their peril.

Actually I tend to drive at about 27/28 in 30 mph zones so it won't make much difference to me personally but I fear it's going to cause more problems than they think ... because people are impatient.

This village where I live has ribbon development which stretches out for about two miles and it is joined on to the ribbon development in the next village, and the one after that and the one after that,
so you can go for 8 miles in a 30 mph zone. It's different to a town or city and when that becomes 20 mph I think it's going to cause difficulties for drivers.

It would make more sense to me if they reduced the speed limit on other roads, especially narrow country roads and the mountain roads around here. They are positively dangerous and frightening when some speeding idiot overtakes you and nearly sends you into a ditch.

Be prepared to crawl around using up fuel and causing pollution.
We will follow we always do.
            120, that's a bit of a joke.

We're not in the EU @pete . And the anti speeding system is exactly that, a system to cut down on speeders.

In any case, it doesn't actually prevent anyone speeding. The system features a warning system in the car when you exceed the speed limit. It will also not accelerate further, unless you actually press the throttle down, then it overrides it. So basically what it means is you have to make a conscious decision to exceed the speed limit.

My works van had a similar system except you had to set it manually to the limit (stalk behind the wheel). I used it all the time and surprise surprise, I was the only driver without points for speeding!
