I went from XP to Windows7 to 10 then 11. At work (NHS) we have some machines still running Windows 7, because the equipment they operate is past its best before date and doesn't work on anything more advanced. However I believe that the NHS have done a deal with Microsoft to provide continuing security updates, we are under pressure to get rid of them ASAP. Some business systems still run XP based systems.
Advantage of 11 over 10 over 7 not much really except the upgrades were free and yes I did upgrade the computer while running Windows 10 when the motherboard went phut.

I'll probably end up buying something cheap for internet use and keep my old laptop for photos, but disconnected from the internet.

The XP tower only runs that one program and no, a later version of windows will not work with it even in compatibility mode. It is a specialty program for designing embroidery for computerized sewing machines.

The rest of my computers are now on Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 365.

I do agree though. They should make updated windows programs that can be installed in "sleek" mode so that they will work with the limited memory in older machines. Have options like Full, Medium, Low and Basic. And I do think a lot of the newer versions have far too much information gathering incorporated and too many "gadgets" that the average user couldn't be bothered with. Certainly would be a lot friendlier to the environment to keep old hardware operating as long as possible!

My old laptop has 8Gb of memory, would that be enough to run windows 10 and why can't it use windows 11.

The big problem of putting later versions of Windows on old computers is they run dog slow. That's because later versions are designed for larger memory and faster processors.

              This is madness:
My Nose gets blocked when I'm in bed so I use a Vick Inhaler stick, last night it rolled out of the bed. I've looked everywhere, can't find it, so I went to the corner shop and Chemist, they don't have any.

I ordered a couple online, free postage and cheaper than Boots or Paydens. The order is being sent from India!

                  Amd quadcore A4-5000.
Might be best if I got some local pc doctor to have a look, if possible they could install it for me.

Perhaps you could get someone to sniff it out for you.

I had to switch on TPM (Trusted Platform Module) to install Windows 11; this was done from the BIOS.
Searching on the internet indicates you may be able to avoid the TPM requirement.

My new latest moan is about people that say covid is 'just a cold'. It's now 2 weeks since I first development symptoms and it's wiped me out. I'm pretty sure my immune system got the better of it about a week ago but I'm just so exhausted, I can't do much of anything. And the brain fog, well let's put it this way, there are two packs of 4 pies in the freezer, and there are 4 of us in the house. It took me about half an hour the other day to work out how many pies each that is.
