Whats Looking Good In July 2022

I admit I am having a hell of a job keeping up with the watering, but it is paying off so far. Need to feed again, but I may leave that until later in the week when the temps have subsided a bit.

This is our main front 'lawn' which is about 20% grass. The patch is a red ant nest. When I run the mower over it I raise the blades above the nest. It is their home and it was there before we moved in 50 years ago. I think they have a right to be there.

 

We have hundreds of Verbascum around the veg area as they bring lots of pollinators




We also leave a few of the wild Verbascum (about 7ft-8ft higher than the cultivated ones)for the Mullein caterpillars and moths

This an arrangement being worked on for a competition Mrs Shiney is doing (chair has to be included but I can't remember the topic). She has lots of our succulent pots on the ground around it for her to take what she wants.


These have just opened in time for a wedding next week where she and a friend are doing 36 table arrangements, in fancy wine bottles, and shall go well with the other plants she has in mind for them. They're also doing an archway for the bride and groom to walk through so we haven't cut our laurel for some time and that will be the green background for the arch.


Mrs Shiney took some Fuchsia cuttings the other week and they have taken OK and, suddenly, just flowered!


I just found this hidden amongst the Evening Primrose that have gone wild


These Clematis are only in their second season and doing quite well. Bought for a £1 each in The Range.




These are two of the four very large ceramic pots crammed full of Hostas that were dropped off to us in the winter for us to split and sell for charity. We couldn't do anything with them at the time as we didn't know which varieties they were.


They are going to be difficult to get out as the pots are curved and they are jammed solidly in there. I think I shall have to cut out a square in the middle and work my way outwards from there. We shall sell the pots as well. They're similar to this

 

@Victoria I'm assuming you mean in Post 123.

If so, they are Cosmos. They're an annual here, grown from seed and grow quickly and need regular deadheading. They also come in multi colours and stripes.

The particular ones in that photo are the short version. We also grow the tall version and I'll look for a photo, or two, from last year. They're easy to grow in pots

 

They're crows . I don't know whether the crows or the blackbirds would be offended
